The much talked about Nike Cup Series continues with its third installment May 18-19. The Nike Cup Series is a partnership between Canongate and the HJGT that features outstanding golfers competing in eight events throughout the year. At the end of the year the players who have accumulated the most points throughout the Nike Cup will play in a Ryder Cup style match again the Southeastern Junior Tour. This particular Nike event will take place in Sharpsburg, GA at the Canongate I Golf Club. There will be a lot at stake for this event outside of the Nike Cup points available. AJGA performance stars will be available provided that field size requirements are met for both the girls and boys 15-18 division and the boys 11-14 division. South Carolina Junior Golf Association Heritage Points and Tarheel Youth Golf Association Points are both up for grabs. The winners in all four divisions will receive an automatic bid to the 2013 Tour Championship. Finally, points towards HJGT year-end honors including the Hurricane Cup and All-HJGT Teams are up for grabs. Event format will consist of 36-hole stroke play, with 18 holes played Saturday and Sunday. Each round will be a double tee start with tee times Saturday running from 12:00pm-2:00pm and tee times Sunday running from 8:00am-10:00am. The awards ceremony will follow the event Sunday where top 3 finishers in each division will be handed out trophies. The player in each division who accumulates the most birdies will be awarded an EFX bracelet and each division will have a comeback player, awarded to the individual who shaves the most strokes off of their score from Saturday to Sunday. Each Comeback player will earn an entire set of Golf Pride Grips. To register for the event visit www.hjgt.org; registration for members is $179 and $199 for non-members. Canongate I was the original Canongate Course opened when it debuted in 1965. 18 holes were added in 1999 which helped make Canongate I into the course that it is today. All 36 holes are beautifully integrated into the surrounding landscape making for a truly beautiful challenge to play.
