Player Spotlight: Ryan Oats

It is one thing to play in a junior golf event, but it is another thing entirely to go play in a Pro-Am and win. Back at the beginning of April, the LIV Golf Tour hosted a Pro-Am in Miami at the Trump National Doral Golf Course. There were many different high-powered names at the tournament including, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Bubba Watson just to name a few. Ryan Oats is a junior golfer from the Hurricane Tour who was lucky enough to participate in the Miami Pro-Am with Scott Vincent and Paul Casey.

Ryan Oats turned 14 years old back in March. He is from Lake Mary, Florida, where he plays at the Heathrow Country Club and has a 2.5 index. Ryan is one of four kids in the Oats home and has two twin sisters and an older brother as well. Oats says that he will be attending Bishop Moore High School as a freshman in the fall. While at Bishop Moore, Oats intends to play both football and golf. Talk about having a diverse sports background.

Ryan Oats Participates At LIV Golf Pro Am

Ryan Oats had the opportunity to play in this event and helped his team take first place at the Pro-Am. This 14-year-old Florida native traveled to Miami back in early April to partake in this event and did quite well. The team collectively shot a 54, which was good enough for -18 for the course. Oats had this to say about his weekend in Miami, “It was a very cool and rewarding experience to play in the LIV Golf Pro Am with my dad, Scott Vincent, and Paul Casey.  I learned a lot from watching the pros play in the tournament.  It was cool to watch their pre-shot routines and how they prepare to hit each shot.” Ryan hopes to bring what he learned in Miami to his next tournament on the Hurricane Tour.

Oats was gracious enough to talk to us about the event and he said, “The LIV golf event was definitely different than any event, as I have never played in a Pro-Am before this one.  I really like the vibe of the LIV golf events in general and the Doral set up was sick!” He also mentioned that he, “would definitely play in more LIV Golf Pro Am events, as it was a ton of fun.” While it was a ton of fun for Oats, he also performed extremely well for his first Pro-Am winning by one strokE, making birdie on 18 to leapfrog Dustin Johnson and Team Wayne Gretzky! That birdie did indeed prove critical to help his team take first in this event. Ryan said that one of his favorite parts of the event was that, “we got to walk 9 holes with Bryson and the entire LIV Golf Crushers Team on Wednesday of that week, which was totally surreal” and that they, “were also lucky enough to have dinner with the Crushers crew on Wednesday night as well.” This event seemed to have been a great experience for Ryan.
