Player Spotlight: Drew Madigan

Finding something that you like to do or love to do can be difficult. Sometimes it takes a global pandemic that shuts everything down for someone to figure out that they like golf. Drew Madigan discovered just that back in 2020, when COVID-19 shut the world down. Madigan was a competitive swimmer from ages 3-14 in Collierville, Tennessee, then COVID-19 shut down all the pools, and he had to find something else to do with his time. So, Madigan put away his swim cap and picked up some golf clubs, because that was something that you could still do during the pandemic. He started playing casually as a way to stay physically active and ended up falling in love with the game.

He continued to keep playing, and a year later, he joined the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Madigan managed to win his first tournament but had to keep working if he wanted to continue to win. He told us that he used the work ethic he developed in swimming to help him become a better golfer and continually improve. Since Madigan joined the Hurricane Tour in April 2021, he has played in 18 tournaments. He has placed top-10 in 14 of them. He has even won four tournaments and most recently took first place at the Walt Disney Classic at Lake Buena Vista. At that tournament, he shot a 147 (+3), which was good enough for a tie of first place. He and the other player tied for first place competed in a playoff, and Madigan came out on top to capture the tournament title. We had the opportunity to catch up with Madigan after his thrilling win at Disney.
