Both divisions received Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings and the winner of the older girls received an exemption for a Florida Junior Tour event. The winners in both divisions received an invite to the 2014 Tour Championship and the 2014 Tour Shop Invitational. Additionally, the top ten finishers received points towards year end honors which include state teams, ALL HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.
Girls 15-18 Age Division After the first round, the Girls 15-18 division was separated by just one shot. Quinn Atkinson of Mason, Ohio shot 77 in the opening round to take a one shot lead over Sydney Merchant of Morrison, CO and Gianna Tomeo of Bradenton, FL. Merchant put together great rounds in both round two and three to bring home the victory by five shots. She shot 74 in round two and 72 in round three to finish day two with a two day total of 152. Merchant entered the third round with a two stroke lead, but bogied the first three holes of the day. She responded well however, without another bogey the remainder of the day and she finished with three birdies and twelve pars on her final fifteen holes. Anne Yu of Lake Mary, FL shot a final round 74 to take home second place, and Lauren Waidner of Fleming Island, FL shot a third round 75 to finish in third place. Merchant’s seven birdies were the most in the field for the week and helped propel her to the five shot victory. Layne-Marie Carter of Lyons, GA won a set of golf pride grips after improving thirteen shots between round one and round two.
Girls 11-14 Age Division The Girls 11-14 division was also packed with excitement throughout the weekend.
