Dallas Summer Classic
(July 22-23, 2017)
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled on Thursday, July 20th, 2017 to Plano, Texas for the Dallas Summer Classic at The Courses at Watters Creek. We had many players come out to give it their all in the hot and humid weather, and all of them completed the course in triumph. The players enjoyed the course’s fairways and greens, and we saw some terrific play from them in return. We had a great weekend in Plano, and we’re very happy with the results! There was quite a bit at stake during this tournament with the top 3 in each age division receiving exemption into the 2017 National Championship. The top 10 in each division will receive points towards end of the year honors which include State Teams, All HJGT team and the Hurricane Cup.
The champion of the Boys 16-18 age division was Chase Venn of Little Rock, AR. Venn had a Day 1 score of 76, then scored an impressive 69 on Day 2 for a total of 145. Venn also had the most birdies for his division with 8 in total. Coming in 2nd, we had Jason Pittman II from TX. Pittman scored a great score of 72 in the first round, then scored a 77 in the second round for a 2-day total of 149. In third, we had Caleb Carson of Saginaw, TX. Carson scored a 78 in round 1, then improved his score to a 72 in round 2 for a total of 150. These young men had a great time competing! Boys 14-15
Michael Hiedelbaugh of Dallas, TX was the Boys 14-15 champion this weekend. Hiedelbaugh had scores of 74 and 76 for a total of 150. Hiedelbaugh also had the most birdies for this division for a total of 7 and had the best birdie streak of 3 in a row. Goader Hanley of Lantana, TX came in 2nd place with scores of 73 and 81 for a total of 154. Coming in 3rd place, we have Peter Clark of McKinney, TX. Clark scored 83 the first day and then improved on the second day with a 76 for a 2-day total of 159. The boys enjoyed the challenging course at Watters Creek. Boys 11-13
For the Boys 11-13 division, Holden Kittelberger of Katy, TX took 1st place. Kittelberger had rounds of 83 and 75 for a 2-day total of 158. Kittelberger was also the Par 3 leader with an average of 3.1. In 2nd place, we have Kyle Nguyenphu of Allen, TX. Nguyenphu had a first-round score of 86, then improved his score to 78 the next day for a total of 164. Braxton Dean of Rockwall, TX was our 3rd place winner with scores of 90 and 93 for a total of 183. The boys showed maturity beyond their years as they attacked this difficult course.
Molly Murray of McKinney, TX is the is the Girls 14-18 champion with a two-day total of 154 (78-76). Murray also had the most birdies in her division with a total of 5 and was the Par 3 leader with an average of 3.0. Lexi DeLorimiere of Flower Mound, TX came in 2nd with rounds of 85 and 79 for a total of 164. Coming in 3rd, we have Janane Tan with a two-day total of 166 (89-77). Tan also had the best birdie streak in her division with back to back birdies. These ladies demonstrated great skill and sportsmanship this weekend.
Symran Shah from Carrollton, TX is the Girls 13 and under champion. Shah was victorious after posting amazing scores of 74 on Saturday and 73 on Sunday, finishing with a two-day total of 147. Shah also had the most birdies in her division with 7 in total. Coming in second was Chanelle Wangari of McKinney, TX with a two-day total of 159 (80-79). Wangari also was the only player in her division to have back to back birdies. In third place, we have Miyoko Tan of Coppell, TX. She scored rounds of 84 and 82 for a two-day total of 166. The girls really enjoyed the course as well as playing with each other.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
