Swinging to Glory at Fairfield
On Thursday, June 16 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Fairfield, Connecticut to host the Connecticut Summer Classic at the challenging Fairchild Wheeler red course. Sunshine was abundant all weekend with temperatures ranging in the mid to high 80’s. The HJGT would like to thank Fairchild Wheeler for allowing us to host our tournament at this wonderful facility. The top performers and champions of the Boys and Girls divisions received valuable point for Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking. Also AJGA stars were up for grabs this weekend. With some much on the line, players had to perform their best.
Noah Peterson from East Longmeadow, Massachusetts was the champion of the boys 16-18 division. Peterson started the day with the lead with a 71 on the first round. Connor Looney from Ridgefield, Connecticut took home second place after shooting a total of 149 for the tournament. Ryan Gorman from Avon, Connecticut took home third place. Connor Looney and Jack Phelan lead the division with 7 birdies. The longest bogey free streak goes to Noah Peterson with 12 holes. We foresee a big future golf career for this young boy.
For the boys 14-15 division the player who took home the first place trophy was Sean Choi from Ramsey, New Jersey. Choi started the last round with a six stroke lead and never looked back. Henry Sparkman from Darien, Connecticut took home the second place trophy after shooting a total of 176 for the tournament. Kyle Zere from Ronkonkoma, New York took home the third place trophy with a total score of 179 for the tournament. Kyle Zere had the largest bogey free streak with 5 holes. Sean Choi led in total pars for the tournament division, which was 16 pars. The players had an amazing experience competing in a very competitive field.
Brian Murdock from Bergenfield, Connecticut took home the first place trophy for the boys 11-13 division. Hassenplug had a rough start with a double bogey on his first hole and a bogey on his second hole, but this young man managed to maintain his composure shooting a plus five forty on the front nine, which led him to shoot an 84 for the last round. Brandon Tuccio from Ridgefield, Connecticut took home second place shooting a two-day total of 177. The third place trophy went to Tyler Zere from Ronkonkoma, New York who carded a two-day total of 178. Murdock was the leader in birdies for the division with 3. Murdock also led the division with the most pars with a total of 15. Each and every player enjoyed the experience of playing competitive golf with other competitive players from all over the country.
Michelle Lee from Hong Kong, China was the champion for the girls 14-18 division. Lee was able to cap off her amazing weekend with a final round of 74. Alexandra Sazhib from New Fairfield, Connecticut took home the second place trophy shooting a two-day total of 155. Sarah Perine from Staten Island, New York took home third place with a two-day total of 157. Lee had the most birdies in the division with 6. Lee had the highest Bogey free streak for the division with a total of 8 holes. The girls had a lot of fun this weekend and enjoyed being surrounded by a lot of great players, who made this tournament a competitive one.

About Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18, and now 10 and under, an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of six age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10, Girls 14-18, and Girls U13. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 2016, we have now expanded to the west coast and cover California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, and Oregon.
