Cold Weather on a Classic Course
On October 22th and 23th 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Wheaton, Illinois to host the Chicago Fall Classic at Cantigny Golf Club. The course was full of ice, moisture, and damp fairways. Saturday was ice cold weather with junior golfers competing heavily amongst each other on the course. Sunday began with a cold sunrise, and at 9:00AM, the golfers begin their quest for the championship. Winners in all four age divisions will receive an automatic bid into the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. The weekend was full of chills and winds, and every junior golfer played their best to earn possible invitations into the December National Championships. The cold weeks is expected to inquire many talents as the golfers’ train and compete for major championships.
In the Girls 14-18 division, Elyse Emerzian of Deerfield, Illinois took home the first place trophy. Emerzian shot a first round score of 85 which quickly separated her from the rest of the playing field. Her two-day total of 166 gave her the victory over Jasmine Yi who finished with a 168. Elyse Emerzian of Deerfield, Illinois was very excited at the thought of winning this particular Hurricane Junior Golf event. All of the participants had an exciting time at Cantigny Golf Course. Finishing with the best score, Emerzian told our tournament director that she enjoyed the course despite the cold weather and wish to continue playing in future Hurricane Junior Golf tournaments. In the Boys 16-18 division, after two outstanding rounds, Ricky leme of Lake Villa, Illinois took home the first place trophy. leme shot a first round score of 77 which quickly set him apart from the rest of the playing field. His two-day total of 153 edged him to victory over Justin Schoenhardt who finished with a 157. Ricky Leme of Lake Villa, Illinois was joyful at the thought of winning this Hurricane Junior Golf event. It came down to the final score card which determined a winner for the 16-18 boy’s division. All of the participants had a wonderful time at Cantigny Golf Club. Finishing with the best score, Ricky told our tournament director that he enjoyed the competitive playing field and wish to continue competing in Hurricane Junior Golf events.
In the Boys 10U division, Jack Mulligan of Burr Ridge, Illinois took home the first place trophy. Mulligan shot a first round score of 89 and a second round score of 86. His two-day total of 175 edged him to victory over Tony Song who finished with a 209.
In the Boys 11-13 age division, Luke Tedford of Lake Forest, Illinois took home the first place trophy. Tedford had a first round one score of 82 and a second round score of 80. Tedford tournament total was 162. Jackson Hulsey of Saint Charles, Illinois took home the second place trophy. Hulsey had a round one score of 86 and a round two score of 85. His tournament total was 171. John Wild of Glen Ellyn, Illinois took home the third place trophy. Wild had a round one score of 88 and a round two score of 94 after 18 holes. His tournament total was 175.
In the Boys 14-15 division, Matthew Garside of Vadnais Heights, M took home the first place trophy with an overall score of 154. Garside shot a round one score 80, and a round two score of 74. Although the wind was a factor throughout the second round of the tournament, Garside attained his ability to defeat Josh Kirkham of Hinsdale, Illinois who shot an overall score of 155. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13.
