The Druh Belts Mid Season Invitational at Chateau Elan

  June 11th, 12th and 13th 2016, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to the Braselton, Georgia to host The Druh Belts Mid Season Invitational on the Woodlands Golf Course at Chateau Elan. The tee box locations made for a challenging course. Friday night held registration and a player’s dinner. Saturday through Monday were all three filled with heat for playing. Winners in all six age divisions will receive an automatic bid to the National Championship on December 3rd and 4th, 2016. The weekend was unbeatable all around, and the top ten finishers also received points towards end year honors, which include state teams, all HJGT teams, and the Hurricane Cup.  

Boys 16-18 Division

In the boys 16-18 division, David Frank of Dunwoody, GA took home the championship after the playoff hole. Frank was on the green in regulation and had a 2 putt for par. He brought in two equivalent first and second round scores of 77, and pulled out a very impressive -3 score of 69 on Monday. Frank had a total score of 223 and 9 birdies for the tournament. The second place winner was Cameron Little of Baton Rouge, LA. Little knocked off strokes each day of the tournament. He brought in a first day score of 80, second day score of 75, and a third day -4 score of 68. Little had a finished with a total score of 223 and 9 birdies on the tournament. Callum Brown of Stuart, FL took home third place. He took off one stroke each day bringing in scores of 76, 75, and 74. Overall the boys 16-18 age division was very competitive this weekend, and all of our top finishers played impressive golf.    

Boys 14-15 Division

In the boys 14-15 age division, an exciting playoff hole decided the winner. Nicholas Gibson of Duluth, GA took home first place after a 10ft putt for eagle on a par 5. Gibson brought in scores of 77, 73, and 78 with 5 birdies and 1 eagle on the tournament. Nicholas Mayfield of Rock Hill, SC took home second place, but not after applying the pressure in the playoff hole. Mayfield made his putt for birdie, requiring Gibson to make his for eagle in order to win. Mayfield started with scores of 76, and 83, and brought in a third day -3 score of 69 for a total of 228. He had 10 birdies in the tournament. Will Spivey of Douglas, GA took home the third place trophy. Spivey brought in scores of 77, 73, and 80 for a total of 230. Spivey had 5 birdies in the tournament. Overall the boys 14-15 age division was very competitive this weekend, and all of our top finishers played impressive golf.      

Boys 11-13 Division

In the boys 11-13 age division, Ryan Macri of Wake Forest, NC took home the first place trophy. He had scores of 80, 71, and 75 for a total score of 226. Macri had 6 birdies in the tournament. Jonathan Griz of Hilton Head Island, SC took home the second place trophy. Griz brought in three scores of 75, 80, and 72 for a total of 227. Griz had 4 birdies in the tournament. Third place went to Frederick Bruce of Atlanta, GA. Bruce brought in three scores of 76, 79, and 73, for a total of 228. Bruce had 7 birdies in the tournament. Overall, this age division showed they weren´t afraid to compete, and everyone performed well.      

Girls 14-18

In the girls 14-18 division, Stephanie Carras of Midland, MI took home the first place trophy. Carras brought in 3 nice scores of 78, 72, and 80 for a total score of 230. Carras had 4 birdies in the tournament. Carson McKie of Hoover, AL took home the second place trophy. McKie had 3 close scores of 77, 79, and 76 for a total of 232. The third place trophy went to Victoria England of Oakland, TN. England had a total score of 240, with three day scores of 77, 88, and 75. She had 6 birdies in the tournament.      

Girls 13U Division

In the girls 13U division, Sara Im of Duluth, GA took home the first place trophy. Im had three quality scores of 76, 72, and 75 for a total score of 223. She had 3 birdies each day for 9 birdies in the tournament. The second place trophy went to Savannah Hylton of Hilton Head, SC. Hylton’s three scores were 82, 75, and 78 for a total of 235. She had 7 birdies in the tournament. The third place trophy went to Katie Stinchcomb of Cave Creek, AZ. Stinchcomb had 3 consistent scores of 79, 79, and 80 for a total score of 238. She had 3 birdies in the tournament. Each of our top finishers played some extraordinary golf this weekend in one of the most competitive fields of the year, each of these girls showed that they have a very bright future ahead of them in golf.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intent of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on the tour will compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18, and Girls 11-13.
