Boys 15-18 Age Division

Sam Jung out of Chantilly, Virginia was crowned the 2014 Northern Virginia Junior Shootout Champion with a two day total of 140 (-2). From watching Jung play both days and looking at his scorecard, not much can be said about the fifteen year olds tournament except for one thing; consistency. Jung’s opening nine was a bit misleading as he rattled off five bogeys, one birdie and only three pars for a disappointing 39 (+4). He fought through and posted a bogey free 32 (-4) on the second nine bringing him to level par for the day. Continuing this spectacular play, Jung started off his second round two under through four holes. Unfortunately, three bogeys found their way on to his card sending him back over par for a 36 (+1). However, showing perseverance and determination yet again, Jung rolled in an eagle on the eleventh and a birdie on the thirteenth instantly erasing the three bogeys. He finished his round well, carding five consecutive pars shooting a 69 (-2). Sam's impressive performance earns him recognition as our Boys 15-18 NYX Player of the Month!

Girls 15-18 Age Division

Two exciting performances led to a tie for our Girls 15-18 NYX September Player of the Month. Anina Ku from basking Ridge, New Jersey  made an impressive showing at the Major Championship at Westlake. She took home the trophy firing a pair of 73’s for a two day total of 146, sufficient for a one shot victory. It could have been anyone’s day but Ku seemed to have the rhythm that no one else could find. The Girls 15-18 Division winner of the Major Championship at Myrtle Beach National was Greg Norman Champions Golf Academy Student, Cristina Guiterrez of Veracruz, Mexico with a two day score of 146. Guiterrez shot a 74 on Saturday and finished the tournament strongly with an even par round, 72, with three birdies on Sunday. both of these ladies showed impressive poise and skill in their victories and we are proud to name them September's NYX Co-Players of the Month for the Girls 15-18 division.     Boys 11-14 Age Division

The Boys 11-14 Division Champion at our Major Championship at Myrtle Beach National Sept. 27-28 was Braden Jones from Atlanta, GA, who shot a fantastic two day total of 140; 4 under par! Jones shot a 69 on Saturday and rounded out the tournament with a 71 on Sunday. He had 3 birdies during his round Sunday and an impressive eagle on hole 17, a par 5, to help him accomplish his 4 under par feat. His 140 score ties Sam Jung, of our Boys 15-18 division, for the lowest overall score of the month. His impressive showing earns him recognition as our Boys 11-14 NYX Player of the Month!

Girls 11-14 Age Division

In our Major Championship at Westlake Sept. 13-14, Ami Gianchandani from Short Hills, New Jersey was the victor with a first round 79 (+8) and second round 73 (+2) for a two-day total of 152. Tiya Chowdary out of Montgomery, New Jersey and Caroline Hodge out of Larchmont, New York were also in contention for the number one spot. Chowdary took second place with a two-day total of 155 and Hodge would be awarded third place with a two-day total of 156. All three girls stayed within three to four shots of each other all tournament making it very exciting to watch. Gianchandani and Chowdary had a rough first day carding multiple bogeys and just one birdie each for totals of 79 (+8) and 80 (+9). Hodge was the leader after day one with a fairly consistent 77 (+6) carding a few bogeys and a single birdie. The tables turned during round two when Gianchandani gracefully posted a double free, three bogey, one birdie 73 (+2). Her perseverance and high level of have earned her recognition as our Girls 11-14 NYX Player of the Month!   The HJGT congratulates all of the competitors who earned recognition as NYX players of the month. With extremely competitive active fields, earning recognition as the NYX player of the Month is quite the accomplishment and we look forward to seeing who our next group of winners will be!   January                                                   JanuaryFebruary
