Carrollton, GA — John Thornton of Newnan, GA, delivered a composed and consistent performance to take home the Boys 14–15 Division title at the West Atlanta Fall Junior Open, hosted by the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, finishing at 152 (+8) over two rounds at Oak Mountain Golf Club. Thornton opened with an impressive 75 on Saturday, setting the early pace with precise ball striking and confident putting. He followed with a 77 in the final round, holding off the field and displaying the calm under pressure needed to close out a wire-to-wire victory. Slade Brawner of Acworth, GA, earned runner-up honors at 166 (+22), showing flashes of strong play throughout the weekend, while Benny Street of Suwanee, GA, finished close behind in third at 169 (+25). Thornton’s ability to maintain control of his game through changing conditions was the difference, as he continued to build momentum with every hole. His performance not only secured the win but also reinforced his reputation as one of Georgia’s top rising junior golfers on the HJGT circuit.

His steady approach play and clutch putting down the stretch helped him maintain control in a talented field that featured competitors from across the U.S. and abroad. Jake Liang of Glen Allen, VA, claimed the runner-up spot at 151 (+7), staying within striking distance after rounds of 74–77, while Pattapat Cholweerawong of Bangkok, Thailand, finished third at 156 (+12) after a strong start to the weekend. Rounding out the top five were Samuel Metz of Rehoboth Beach, DE (157, +13) and Whitt Kaster of Louisville, KY, who tied with Enzo Ord of Pinehurst, NC, at 158 (+14). The event, part of the HJGT’s elite invitational series, showcased precision golf and perseverance on a course that challenged every part of the players’ games. His steady play under windy weekend conditions separated him from a tight field and secured a well-earned victory. Finishing just one stroke behind at 167 (+23) were Lucas Zhao of Brossard, Quebec, Canada, and Arjun Vemuri of St. Augustine, FL, who shared second after matching rounds of 86–81. Both players made strong Sunday pushes, but couldn’t quite close the gap on Spiwak’s steady pace. Riley Ferguson of Owens Cross Roads, AL, finished fourth at 168 (+24), while George Resty Myers of Ponte Vedra, FL, rounded out the top five. The event, part of the HJGT’s fall schedule, once again delivered exciting play and showcased the depth of emerging junior golf talent from across the U.S. and Canada. Orlando, FL — The Disney Fall Junior Open brought out some of the best young talent from around the world, and Lucas Zhao of Brossard, Quebec, Canada rose to the occasion, carding a steady 75 (+3) to claim the Boys 14–15 division title at Walt Disney World. Zhao’s poise and consistency were key on a course that tested players with tight approaches and quick greens. He kept his round under control from start to finish, pulling away from a competitive international field. Rivers Nelson of Calabasas, CA finished close behind with a 78 (+6), while Kane Solano of Las Vegas, NV rounded out the top three at 79 (+7). Orlando’s own Zeke Varela impressed the local crowd with a solid 80 (+8) to take fourth, while Aidan Truong (Wichita, KS) and Edward Wang (Dalian, China) tied for fifth at 81 (+9). The leaderboard reflected the truly global nature of the event, with players representing five different countries across the top finishers. Zhao’s performance capped off an exciting day of competition, showcasing both composure and world-class junior golf on one of Disney’s most scenic stages.
