From Saturday, March 9 – Sunday, March 10, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Tampa Bay Junior Open at Heritage Isles Golf & Country Club in Tampa, FL. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole, two-day format and the field was made from six divisions that included the Tiger Woods Division Boys 16-18, Will Smith Division Boys 14-15, Ernie Els Division Boys 11-13, Bryson DeChambeau Division Boys Under 10, Justin Timberlake Division Girls 14-18, and the Justin Rose Division Girls 13 and Under.
Alex Whitehead of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL was on his game this weekend, as he won first place in the Tiger Woods Division with 143 strokes. William Masuhr won second place with 147 strokes. Just two strokes behind him was a two-way tie for third, as Masatoyo Kato of Bradenton, FL and Finn Sapp of Edwards, CO each finished with 149 strokes.
Armand Loscalzo of Tampa, FL did not disappoint in the Will Smith Division as he finished with 153 strokes. Takahiro Hirose of Bradenton, FL and Qilin Yu of Guang Dong, China tied for second as they finished with 158 strokes.
Itai Cohen of Or Akiva, Israel was the champion of the Ernie Els Division this weekend, as he finished with 146 strokes. Frank Wu of China won the silver trophy with 150 strokes. Rounding out the division was Jackson Harris of Powell, OH with 155 strokes.
It was a very tight race in the Justin Timberlake Division this weekend, but Emily Hummer of Upper Arlington, OH ended up on top with 157 strokes. Right behind her was second-place finisher Vivian Kuang of Bradenton, FL with 158 strokes. Konomi Matsubara of Bradenton, FL and Kylie Mani of Naples, FL rounded out the division as they both finished with 159 strokes.
Consistent play both days caused Ann-Sophie Bourgault of Mont Tremblant, Canada, to become the champion of the Justin Rose Division, as she finished with 157 strokes. Right behind her was Hayli Snaer of Venice, FL and Ellison Lundguist of Furlong, PA finishing with 158 and 159 strokes respectively.
Boys 10 Under
With improvement each day over the tournament, Jeremiah Smith of Viera, FL took home the gold in the Bryson DeChambeau Division with 161 strokes. Lucas Gilbart of Toronto, Canada and Thomas Bonomo of Greenwich, CT rounded out the division with 167 and 186 strokes respectively.
