Another weekend is coming with another set of great tournaments on February 24-25, taking place in Tennessee, Florida, and Texas. This weekend is a little different, though, with a college prep tournament taking place at Vanderbilt University. So, let’s dive into this weekend’s action.
Central Florida Junior Open
The first tournament of the weekend is taking place in Lake Mary, Florida, where the host for the Central Florida Junior Open is the Timacuan Golf and Country Club. According to their website, “The championship layout at Timacuan Golf and Country Club has long been recognized as one of the purest and most enjoyable tests of golf in Central Florida. Conveniently located just off Interstate 4 in Lake Mary, Timacuan is easy to reach from anywhere in the Orlando metropolitan area.” The course itself looks gorgeous and I’m sure it will be hard to leave Lake Mary on Sunday afternoon. The tournament has a full field of 94 golfers, with a couple dozen more on the waitlist, so everyone heading down to the course is in for a full slate of golf.
Looking at the weather for this weekend, it is going to be almost perfect. Saturday will be nice and sunny with a high of 71 and a low of 46. Sunday brings more of the same with a high of 69 and a low of 44. While those lows seem low, Lake Mary won’t start cooling off until around 9 pm, so expect warm days ahead. For all of our players and parents this weekend, pack hats and sunscreen because it will be near perfect conditions in Lake Mary, Florida this weekend.
College Prep Series at Vanderbilt
For the next tournament, we shift our focus to Tennessee and Vanderbilt University. This tournament will be at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee. Since its opening in 1992, Vanderbilt Legends Club has made its mark in the world of golf by receiving national recognition and accolades. The par 71 South Course, measuring 7,100 yards, takes players through verdant fields winding in the shadow of historic Roper’s Knob hillside. With a mix of wooded and open spaces, the South Course should offer a unique and challenging golf experience for the nearly full field of 90 golfers.
This tournament is going to be exciting and will deal with some mediocre weather. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mostly cloudy and not very warm. Saturday has a high of 50 and a low of 28, with Sunday warming up significantly with a high of 64 and low of 50. For all of you traveling to Tennessee this weekend, pack warm for Saturday and expect warmer weather on Sunday.
Dallas Junior Open at Southern Oaks
Looking at Texas, our next tournament will be outside of Dallas. More specifically, it will be player at Southern Oaks Golf Club in Burleson, Texas. This course has a beautiful 18-hole championship design, winds through mature oak and pecan trees, and crosses through an existing creek, making it a scenic and challenging round of golf for new or advanced players. The course lies just off of Interstate 35 – an easy 50-minute drive from downtown Dallas and near Fort Worth as well.
It is looking like a beautiful weekend in Texas. Both Saturday and Sunday are expected to be sunny and bright. Saturday will have a high of 77 and a low of 54. Sunday will heat up some, with a high of 82 and low of 59. It is going to be very sunny and warm so prepare accordingly.
Palm Beach County Junior Open
Last but not least, we look at Palm Beach, Florida, for the Palm Beach Country Junior Open. This weekend’s tournament will feature nearly 100 golfers competing at the Village Golf Course in Palm Beach. The Village Golf Club is a championship 18-hole public golf course located in the heart of Palm Beach County, less than 15 minutes from the Palm Beach International Airport. The Village is a parkland-style par-72 championship layout set on 175 acres of uninterrupted lush South Florida terrain, featuring premium Jones Dwarf Bermuda grass greens.
This course near the east coast of South Florida promises great views and amazing weather this weekend. Saturday promises a high of 73 and a low of 49 with mostly cloudy skies. Sunday will really clear up and be sunny with a high of 72 and a low of 51. Both days, however, will have a UV index of 7 so pack the sunscreen to avoid getting burnt on the course. Enjoy a beautiful weekend in Palm Beach Florida.
