There isn’t much better than the smell of fresh-cut grass on the golf course and a beautiful day to play golf.
But, getting a win on that golf course might be. Patrick Lewis came in swinging at the Bears Best Junior Open and won. Shooting +8 in the tournament, Lewis was able to easily win the Boys 14-15 Division.

Lewis beat his second-place opponent Weston Ehman (+17) by a wide margin of 9 strokes. Lewis was off to a great start in the first round shooting 74 which was the best for the day followed by the third-place competitor Reyce Wicks (81) and Ehman (82). But, Lewis was able to pull away in the second round shooting 78 while Ehman shot 79 and Wicks 91.
We asked Lewis how it felt to get his most recent win on the tour and he said, “It was great to win again! I have played 5 tournaments and have won 3 of them. My coach just changed my swing so my last tournament on HJGT was rough but things clicked this week.”
Lewis enjoys the great competition that HJGT can offer as well as the amazing staff. For tournament preparation, Lewis does a lot of chipping and putting. Every course is different regarding how the rough is set up and how fast the greens are. Lewis tries to focus on that since driving and irons are typically the same everywhere.
In the future, Lewis wants to play golf at a Division 1 level. He also wants to have the chance to play on the tour someday. Lewis recently picked up the game of golf two years ago and gave up travel basketball for it. Lewis said, “I love the sport and seeing all the different courses. Each one is a different challenge and that is exciting.”
