At a young age, Fischer Leggitt has been an all-around athlete. Leggitt has played many sports growing up including basketball, baseball, football, and golf. Once high school started he transitioned to playing golf full-time for a few reasons. He can play as an individual as well as for a team. Leggitt says, “Golf is also a lot like life- you get out of it what you put into it.”
At the College Prep Series at UVA, Leggitt put on a show finishing the tournament shooting +3. In the first round, Leggitt opened the tournament shooting 76 and was able to finish strong in the second round shooting 69 which was a tournament low -2! Finishing in the top three in his last five outings, Fischer Leggitt might be one of the hottest players on the tour and is ranked 15th in our Player of the Year rankings.
How did it feel to get your most recent win on the tour?
“It was very exciting. I work hard every day to get better and it was great to see that translate into success.”
What are some things you enjoy most about playing golf?
“Golf is the great equalizer. It does not matter how big or fast you are – just how hard you work and that means everyone has an even playing field. Also, all my friends that play other sports also like to play golf with me.”
What does the typical practice or training routine look like before heading into a tournament?
“Going into the week before a tournament my routine is about 7 to 8 hours of practice daily with a focus of 60% putting, 30% chipping, and 10% full swing. I also workout 3 to 4 times a week to maintain posture, sequencing and footwork.”
Are there any important lessons that you have learned from playing golf?
“It has definitely taught me the importance of staying calm when things are not going your way. It also teaches resilience.”
Are there any memories that stand out the most from playing in the HJGT tournaments?
“I had my first competition hole in one this year at an HJGT tournament. In my opinion the HJGT tour is one of the best run tours you can play in. They select great courses which are very challenging but true and that helps to hone my competitive abilities.”
If you could play a round of golf with any three people, who would they be and why?
“Tiger woods- Simply the best of all time.”
“Scottie Scheffler – Best in the world and a great person. I would ask him to bring his golf medal so I could see one in person.”
“Kevin Hart – Super funny. Laughter is a big part of life and Kevin is absolutely hilarious.”
What are some other passions you have outside the sport of golf?
“I like fishing, listening to all types of music, and watching college football.”
Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
“Cody Wyoming. My family stayed on a ranch and it was one of the best times I have ever had riding horses, rafting, fishing and going to a rodeo.”
If you could pick any three foods to eat for the rest of your life, what would they be?
“My favorites are Chicken Alfredo, BBQ ribs and beef lo mein.”
