Junior Golf Tournament Preview: May 18-19

Welcome to the third weekend of May. Last weekend was packed with a lot of fun and some intense battles across many junior golf tournaments. This week will have the competition heat up again just as the weather has been doing with summer right around the corner. Let’s look ahead at this week’s 7 tournaments across 6 unique states.

Atlanta Junior Open at Bears Best

For the first tournament this weekend we head down south to Atlanta. There will be some of the best competitors to take on one of the nicest courses in the metro Atlanta area. Bear’s Best Atlanta is a premier golf course located in Suwanee, Georgia. It’s part of the Bear’s Best family of courses, which are known for featuring collections of holes designed by Jack Nicklaus. This particular course showcases some of Nicklaus’s favorite designs from courses worldwide, including holes from Castle Pines, PGA West, Desert Mountain, and Muirfield Village, among others.

The 5th hole at Bear’s Best Atlanta is considered one of the signature holes of the course and is often regarded as the toughest. It is a par-4 that features a demanding tee shot to be played almost perfectly to land it in the narrow fairway. The hole requires precision and accuracy to avoid hazards such as the front of the green bunker while also managing the distance to ensure a successful approach shot onto the green. The green itself can be challenging to navigate due to its undulating contours, making putting a test of skill and patience. If golfers can do well on this hole they are on pace for a great weekend.

The weather in Atlanta this weekend will be very dependent on whether the scattered thunderstorms end up hitting the course. Saturday will have a high of 83 degrees but will have pop-up thunderstorms occurring throughout the day. Sunday will be quite similar with a high of 84 degrees and scattered storms once again. Packing a rain jacket is a must for both days of the tournament.

Columbus Junior Open

For the next tournament, we head up towards Columbus, Ohio where some of the best golfers will take on Denison Golf Club. There will be 70 golfers competing in the Columbus Junior Open with the largest pool of competitors being Boys 16-18. Situated amidst the picturesque countryside of Granville, which is just outside of Columbus, Denison Golf Club boasts stunning views and natural landscapes. Golfers can enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings as they navigate the course, with tree-lined fairways and scenic vistas enhancing the overall experience.

The 12th hole at Denison Golf Club is often regarded as one of the toughest holes on the entire course. It may feature challenging elements such as narrow fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and potentially unforgiving rough. Additionally, the green on the 12th hole may be well-guarded by bunkers or feature undulating slopes, making it challenging to hold and putt on.

The weather in Columbus this weekend will start with a chance of rain on Saturday and end on a nicer note Sunday. Saturday will have a high of 78 degrees with occasional rain showers. Sunday will be a lot nicer with a high of 79 degrees and will be mostly cloudy. Saturday will be challenging but you will be rewarded with a pleasant Sunday.

Disney LBV Junior Open

The next tournament takes place in Orlando Florida at Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course. There are 49 eager junior golfers who are all hoping to earn a first-place finish this weekend. This course will put up a worthy challenge for all of the golfers involved. The course is known for its scenic beauty, featuring manicured fairways, towering trees, and tranquil waterways. Golfers can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscape as they make their way around the course, adding to the overall experience.

The most challenging hole at Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is often considered to be the 7th hole, known as “Magnolia Bend.” This is a par-3 hole that requires accuracy off the tee and precision on approach shots.

It is going to be a hot one in Orlando this weekend. Saturday will have a high of 95 degrees with a chance of thunderstorms in the evening. Sunday will be a bit cooler with a high of 88 degrees, but will have scattered storms throughout the day. Thankfully the cloud coverage will keep things a little bit cooler during the weekend.

Major Championship at Countryside

Next up is the beautiful Countryside Golf Club which is situated just 45 minutes outside of Chicago. This weekend, there are some elite competitors who are all vying for a first-place finish. The Countryside Golf Club is set amidst the natural beauty of the Illinois landscape, offering picturesque views of rolling terrain, mature trees, and serene water features. Golfers can enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings as they make their way around the course, with each hole offering its unique challenges and opportunities.

The tournament will take place at the traditional course which is generally considered the more difficult of the two offered at Countryside. The 5th hole on this course is largely considered the most difficult hole due to the sharp dogleg right. The strategically placed bunkers and a difficult approach shot to the green make it a challenge for any golfer.

The weather in Mundelein will be quite nice. Saturday in particular will have excellent conditions with a high of 80 degrees and it will remain sunny all day. Sunday will have a high of 80 degrees as well but will be partly cloudy for most of the day with a chance of showers in the evening.

New England Junior Open

For the next tournament, we head up north to Falmouth, Maine where the magnificent Falmouth Country Club poses a real challenge for all of the golfers participating this weekend. Located just 20 minutes outside of Portland, Maine, Falmouth Country Club offers stunning views of rolling hills, lush fairways, and tranquil water features. Golfers can enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings as they navigate the course, with mature trees providing shade and serenity throughout the round.

The long par five on hole fifteen is often considered the most difficult hole, and it is also the second longest on the entire course coming in at 545 yards. The long narrow fairways littered with bunkers make it a real challenge for a golfer at any level.

It looks like it may be quite wet this weekend in East Falmouth adding to the challenge of the course. Saturday has a high of 58 degrees with scattered showers happening throughout most of the day. Sunday has a high of 60 degrees and the scattered showers continue all day. The good news is that this rain does not appear to come with much wind.

Northern NJ Spring Junior Open

We don’t have to travel too far to Mountain View Golf Course located in Trenton, New Jersey. Along with the beautiful golf course, it also features a clubhouse that was voted by Golf Inc. as one of the 15 most prestigious and beautiful clubhouse facilities in the world. The tournament is filled with 90 competitors ready to take home a victory.

One of the more challenging holes on the course is the 5th hole. It is a par-4 layered with many difficult bunkers and a shot over water before you can reach the green. If one can master this hole early on they are set up for a great round of golf

The weather in Trenton this weekend will start pretty rough but it will get better as it goes on. Saturday will have a high of 63 degrees with scattered showers throughout the day. Sunday will be a bit warmer with a high of 72 degrees and will have some rain in the early morning. Thankfully the weekend should end on a high note with the sun beginning to peak out in the afternoon.

Saint Louis Spring Kickoff

The last tournament this weekend will be held in Waterloo, Illinois which is just a short 20-minute ride from St. Louis. The competitors this weekend are going to need to play to the best of their ability if they want to come out on top at Acorns Golf Links. The course is filled with just pure nature and beautiful scenery without a subdivision in sight. While this course is a challenge it is considered by many as one of the most visually appealing courses that they have ever played on.

It looks like there is going to be some beautiful weather in St. Louis this weekend. Saturday will have a high of 85 degrees and should be sunny the whole day. Sunday will be similar with a high of 84 degrees but should be a bit cooler with cloud coverage all day. This should be an amazing weekend for golf.
