Player Spotlight: Jace Collins Dominates the Northern NJ Spring Junior Open

At the Northern NJ Spring Junior Open, dozens of golfers took to the course in order to bring home the championship title in their divisions. For one of our champions, it was his very first event! Jace Collins coming from Spring Brook Township, PA didn’t have to travel too far from home to pick up his big win in the Boys 10 & Under Division. When we asked him how it felt getting his most recent win on the tour, Jace was hoping to just make the top three, “so to get the win felt great.” Not too shabby for his first-ever HJGT event! On the tour, Jace secured his victory by shooting 81 strokes in his first round of play and 93 strokes in his second round. This was a combined total of 174 strokes for the weekend and allowed him to have a very comfortable win.

If Jace isn’t playing on the course himself, he might be watching his favorite athletes play instead. Both Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllory are his favorite golfers, but Jace isn’t interested in just golf. His love for sports goes beyond that. He also likes basketball, and his favorite player is none other than Stephen Curry, who can dominate on both the hardwood and the green. But that’s not all. He also enjoys watching the WWE and particularly “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes.

Jace Collins and His Thoughts

Following Jace’s big win, we wanted to know what his favorite part of the tour was. His favorite part of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour was that he “enjoys playing multiple days, 18-hole events at some courses I’ve never played before.”

When preparing for his upcoming tournaments, he will usually practice at the Elmhurst Country Club, which is his home course. He also will “work with my swing coach Ryan.” As the saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.”

As for what Jace wants for his career and what he aspires to achieve, he “would like to go to Duke University to play golf and basketball.” When it comes to the world outside athletics, he says, “ I enjoy math and science and think it would be cool to be an astronaut someday!”

It is very impressive to come into your first tournament and be able to win the division. At only ten years old, this young phenom will continue to get better and strive for greatness. For young Jace Collins, the sky’s the limit.
