Junior Open Preview – March 2-3

Happy March to everyone on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour! For the first weekend of March, we have five tournaments in four different states lined up. There are two in Florida, one in Alabama, one in Tennessee, and one in North Carolina. Let’s dive into our first Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama.

Birmingham Spring Junior Open

Our first tournament takes place in Birmingham, Alabama at the Farmlinks Golf Club at Pursell Farms. Pursell Farms golf course was gently sculpted out of scenic farmland that has been in the Pursell Family for three generations, our golf course features a mix of dramatic elevation changes, pristine fairways, and immaculate greens. Pursell Farms sits just 47 miles southeast of Birmingham, Alabama. Looking at the weather for this weekend, it will be a cloudy and warm weekend down in Alabama. Saturday will bring moderate temperatures with a high of 69 and a low of 53. Sunday, however, promises to bring some warmer temperatures with a high of 74 and a low of 57. Be careful on your way out as there are some expected rain showers Sunday evening. The UV index will be low this weekend, so don’t worry too much about the sunscreen. Good luck down in Alabama this weekend.

College Prep Series at NC State

The Lonnie Poole Golf Course is a great golf course located on campus at North Carolina State. The stunning layout was designed by Arnold Palmer and the design team at Arnold Palmer Design Company (including Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson, both NC State graduates). The purpose of the facility is to provide a public golf course on the Centennial Campus of NC State University that serves as a venue for the men’s and women’s golf teams. The course lies just southwest of Raleigh and is directly off of Interstate 40. The weather looks mild this weekend in Raleigh with some rain and mostly cloudy conditions expected. Saturday morning will bring some rain that should blow through by the afternoon with a high of 65 and a low of 48. If you’re teeing off in the morning, bring your rain gear but expect to take it off in the afternoon. Sunday will bring drier conditions with a high of 68 and a low of 50. The weather service also says to expect some sunshine to pop through on Sunday. It will be a weather-filled weekend for our friends in Raleigh, so hang in there on Saturday and expect the nicer weather on Sunday.

Jensen Beach Junior Open

The Jensen Beach Golf Club will be hosting the first of two tournaments in Florida this weekend. Jensen Beach Golf Club, formerly Eagle Marsh, is the closest course to Hutchinson Island and the beaches making it the perfect choice whether you’re a local or here on vacation. This Tommy Fazio Masterpiece is the gem of the Treasure Coast and is a premier destination for a golf experience in South Florida. This course in the Southeast of Florida will provide some beautiful views while you golf this weekend, try not to get too distracted. Boy will this weekend provide some fun weather for all of you. Saturday there are occasional rain showers in the afternoon with steady cloud cover and chances of thunderstorms. The temperature will be nice and toasty with a high of 79 and a low of 67. Be careful down in Jensen Beach this weekend.

Nashville Junior Shootout at Hermitage

We shift our focus over to Tennessee for the next tournament of the weekend. The Hermitage Golf Club will be hosting this tournament. General’s Retreat, built in 1986 with architect Gary Roger Baird, hosted the LPGA Sara Lee Classic from 1988 to 1999. Having been voted the “Best Golf Course in Nashville,” General’s Retreat is a must-play when visiting the Nashville, Tennessee area. With the beautiful setting along the Cumberland River and a variety of tee placements, golfers of all capabilities will thoroughly enjoy the golf, scenery, and hospitality offered at the Hermitage Golf Course. Beautifully carved from Florida’s rich landscape, Heritage Isles is everything Florida golf was meant to be. Architects, Gordon G. Lewis and Jed Azinger dedicated themselves to preserving the land’s rustic beauty to combine a course that is not only challenging but extremely enjoyable. The course sets itself apart as it maintains an untouched glory. through the preservation of 15 acres of natural wetlands and a thriving animal population.
