Junior Golf Tournament Preview: July 13-14

Welcome to this week’s junior golf tournament preview for July 13-14, 2024. Coming off another outstanding weekend on the Hurricane Tour, the upcoming slate of five new events across four states promises to deliver more champions and memories. Here’s a preview of what kids nationwide will experience this weekend:

Mid-Season Invitational at Reunion presented by Short Par 4

We begin this tournament preview in Reunion, Florida where we have a SOLD OUT event for the Mid-Season Invitational Presented by Short Par 4. This anticipated summer event has a field that has reached over 220 competitors. Here they will play at the prestigious Reunion Resort on both the Palmer & Watson courses. The girl’s division will play at the Arnold Palmer Course which is known for its sprawling nature over hilly, rolling terrain. The course this weekend will play from 5,744 yards of engaging play with elevation changes up to 50 feet. 

The boy’s division will play at the Tom Watson course known for wide-open greens, rolling fairways, and strategically-placed bunkers. For the Palmer course golfers will want to pay extra attention to the par-five 9th hole that stretches out to 552 yards. As for the Watson course the par-4 4th hole is a real challenge as it stretches out to 432-yards.

Weather Forecast: On Saturday, partly cloudy early with thunderstorms becoming likely during the afternoon. High 93F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%. On Sunday, partly cloudy with afternoon showers or thunderstorms. High 93F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Bridgemill Junior Open

Next up, we move to Canton, Georgia which is situated just forty minutes outside of Atlanta. Bridgemill Athletic Club is known for its par-72 layout was masterfully carved into the rolling terrain and plays to 7,110 yards from the championship tees. 

Touting a true island green, Bridgemill’s 16th is one of the most recognized holes in Atlanta. The 199-yard par-3 is a challenge to any golfer that comes across it.

Weather Forecast: On Saturday, sunshine and some clouds. Hot. High 94F. Winds light and variable. On Sunday, generally sunny despite a few afternoon clouds. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 96F. Winds light and variable.

Central New Jersey Junior Open

The Hurricane Tour heads north to Somerville, New Jersey for the Central New Jersey Junior Open. Here the junior golfers will compete at Fox Hollow Golf Club which is known for being voted as one of the top Northeast golf courses by golfers. Nestled among rolling hills and lush greenery, the club offers an 18-hole championship course designed to test players of all skill levels.

Golfers need to be on the lookout for the par-4 5th hole. The number one handicap hole on the course features a max distance of 432 yards and presents a formidable challenge to any golfer who encounters it.

Weather Forecast: On Saturday, rain showers early with some sunshine later in the day. High 91F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%. On Sunday, mostly sunny skies. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 93F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Cog Hill Junior Championship

For the next tournament, we head over to Lemont, Illinois which is just 40 minutes outside of Chicago. Cog Hill Golf and Country Club will host their 8th HJGT tournament this year. This pristine course of Illinois is known for gently rolling, wooden terrain and offers a nice blend of lengths and difficulty, requiring a range of shot-making ability. The course features water on six holes and enough sand to test the accomplished player without punishing the beginner!

One hole that all golfers should be aware of will be the par-5 6th. The hole has a max distance of 480 yards but the real trouble will be with handling the sharp dogleg left. There are also two greenside bunkers to the right of the green.

Saint Louis Summer Junior Open

We end this tournament preview with the Saint Louis Summer Junior Open. Wood River, Illinois is home to the Belk Park Golf Course. This course is known for its well-maintained, scenic layout and player-friendly design, making it a favorite among golfers of all skill levels.

Golfers will need to pay extra attention to hole #14, which is a 427-yard par-4. Waste bunkers, a dogleg left, and length all play major factors in this hole, and a great tee shot is essential for par or better. 

Weather Forecast: On Saturday, Scattered thunderstorms in the morning, then partly cloudy late. High around 90F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%. On Sunday, some clouds in the morning will give way to mainly sunny skies for the afternoon. High near 95F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph.
