Junior Golf Tournament Preview: August 3-4

Welcome to this week’s junior golf tournament preview for August 3-4, 2024. Coming off another outstanding weekend on the Hurricane Tour, the upcoming slate of three new events across three states promises to deliver more champions and memories. Here’s a preview of what kids nationwide will experience this weekend:

Boston Summer Finale at Cold Spring

We kick off this tournament preview in Belchertown, Massachusetts. This town is set to host the Boston Summer Finale at Cold Springs Country Club. This course is known for being designed by Mary Armstrong, as she completed the course in 2010 and opened for play in 2012, Cold Spring Country Club is an up-and-coming par 71 golf course, with its 6,521 yards set on rolling hills that boast breathtaking vistas in nearly every direction.

One hole that all golfers should be aware of is hole #2 nicknamed “The Gauntlet.” This 537-yard par-5 is best played up the right side of the fairway with your initial tee shot as it has a slight dog-leg right.

Weather Forecast: On Saturday, scattered thunderstorms. High 84F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%. On Sunday, Variable clouds with scattered thunderstorms. High 84F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Myrtle Beach Summer Junior Open at Tradition

For the next tournament, HJGT heads down to Pawleys Island, South Carolina which is situated just outside of Myrtle Beach. The junior golfers will be competing at Tradition Golf Club which is known for a creative yet simple design that focuses on pristine surfaces, protected greens, and a challenging yet playable round. Previously named the South Carolina Golf Course of the Year and routinely honored by regional and national publications, Tradition complements a par-72 round with its Mega Practice Complex, one that has since been copied at other courses around the United States.

Golfers need to pay extra attention to hole #8. This long 430-yard par-4 has had a recent renovation that significantly opened the fairway corridor, allowing players to be more aggressive off the tee. A large green features trouble on both sides.

Weather Forecast: On Saturday, mixed clouds and sun with scattered thunderstorms. Hot and humid. High 89F. Winds SSW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 50%. On Sunday, variable clouds with scattered thunderstorms. High 87F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Southeast Regional Invitational

Our final tournament in this tournament preview is at St. Augustine, Florida. The World Golf Village is set to host the Southeast Regional Invitational. All golfers will be playing on the Slammer & Squire course which is known for being a well-groomed course that showcases the unspoiled wooded areas, wetlands, and natural beauty. The layout is open with several contoured greens. A few water hazards come into play, but the views of the Hall of Fame will overshadow any challenges you may face.

One hole that all golfers should be aware of is hole #5. The long 426-yard par-4 provides a real test to any golfer.

Weather Forecast: On Saturday, generally sunny despite a few afternoon clouds. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 89F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph. On Sunday, mixed clouds and sun with scattered thunderstorms. High 88F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 50%.
