Woodstock, Georgia (September 22-23) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour traveled to Woodstock this weekend to host the Major Championship at beautiful Bradshaw Farms. A lot was on the line this weekend at this tournament was one of our major championships. The tournament featured over 60 of the southeast’s best players with competitors from Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The tournament was ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. The weather this weekend featured temperatures in the mid 70’s and sunny skies. The weather was windy at times but the players seemed to overcome the challenge. The highlight of the weekend came from the boys younger division that went down to the wire on nail-biting 6-hole playoff. This tournament was sponsored by MoRodz. The Boys 15-18 Division was won by Carson Willis out of Griffin, GA. Willis shot an even 72 on Saturday and 74 on Sunday finishing with an overall score of 146. Coming in second out of Roswell, GA was Shea Sylvester who after posting a 78 on Saturday finished with an even 72 on Sunday. Coming in a close third was Ryan Stachler from Alpharetta, GA. Kevin Wargo was the only player from the older boys division to get an eagle over the weekend. Carson Willis finished with the most birdies with 8. Shea Sylvester led the group in our Most Pars or Better category with 75%. Tyler Barker won the Par 3 Performance with a 3.00 average. Tanner Batson won the Par 5 Performance with a 4.75 average. Carson Willis was also able to come in first with most par breakers with a 22.2% average and our par 4 performance with a 4.05 average. The Girls 15-18 Division was won by Sabrina Long from nearby Alpharetta who shot a 79 on Saturday and a 78 on Sunday finishing with a 157 for an overall score. Coming in a close second out of Lawrenceville, GA was Harmanprit Kaur. Kaur shot a 79 on each day of the weekend. Hannah Mae Deems from Taylorsville, GA came in third place for the young ladies after shooting an 83 on Saturday and a 76 on Sunday. Long led the field in birdies with 4 and most par breakers with 11.1%. Deems came in first place with pars with 24 overall. Kaur won our Par 4 Performance with a 4.35 average. Madeline Harr won our Par 3 Performance with a 3.12 average. Megan Carter came in first with the par 5 performance with a 5.12 average. The most thrilling part of the weekend was the final finish for the boys 11-14 Division. First place came down to a playoff after Josh Lewis and Hunter Dunagan both tied finishing with an overall score of 144. Lewis; out of Lake Mary, FL, and Dunagan; out of Martinez, GA, had to play 6 extra playoff holes to finally decide a winner. Finally on the 6th hole of the playoff, a par 3, after both players chipped onto the green after their second shots the first place spot for the boys younger division was decided. Lewis’ par putt was about 8 feet from the pin, while Dunagan’s par putt was only about 2 feet from the pin. Lewis left his par putt about a foot short from the pin and putted it through finishing with a bogie on the hole. Dunagan was able to sink his par putt and claim the first place trophy. On the third hole of the playoff, when it seemed as if Dunagan going to clinch first place, Lewis hit a gorgeous 30 foot chip to land the ball inches from the pin. Coming in a close third from Dacula, GA was Bennett McCarron who finished with an overall score of 145. Dunagan led the group in birdies with 9. Dunagan came in first in our Most Par Breakers category with 25%. McCarron finished with the most pars with 23. Lee About Us: The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2008 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. Golfers who participate on tour will compete in one of four age divisions: Boys 15-18 Division, Boys 11-14 and Girls 15-18 Division and 11-14 Division. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the southeast, with stops in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
