On Saturday, June 16 – Sunday, June 17, 2018 the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Virginia Summer Junior Open in Dulles, Virginia. The two-day, thirty-six-hole tournament played at the 1757 Golf Club consisted of players from five of our divisions, including, the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division, Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Ernie Els Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division, and the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division.
George Clark of South Riding, Virginia, captured the victory in the Tiger Woods Boys 16-18 Division with a total of 143 (+3). He led his playing field with the lowest scoring average (71.5), the most birdies (11), and the longest birdie or better streak (3). Second-place finisher, Hayden Miller of Leesburg, Virginia finished with a two-day total of 147 (+7). Ben Choe of Herndon, Virginia, finished third with a total of 149 strokes for a +9 finish.
In the Will Smith Boys 14-15 Division, Mehrbaan Singh of Ashburn, Virginia took home the title after finishing with 144 total strokes (+4). He made 6 birdies and had the lowest scoring average, of 72, in his division. Daniel Suter of Gaithersburg, Maryland finished second with a thirty-six-hole total of 150 strokes for a +10 finish. Third-place finisher was Chase Nevins, of Great Falls, Virginia, who shot 152 (+12) on the weekend.
Owen Wolak was victorious this weekend in the Ernie Els Boys 11-13 division. He made 3 birdies and had a low scoring average of 89.5 to help him finish the weekend with a total of 179 strokes for a +39 finish. This is Owen’s first 1st place finish this year, following his 11th place finish in late-April.
Allie LeeHoffman of McLean, Virginia was the first-place finisher in the Justin Timberlake Girls 14-18 Division after finishing the weekend +16 with 156 strokes. She led her playing field with the lowest scoring average (78) and the most birdies (3). Potomac, Maryland’s Aine Kenwood finished second with a total of 182 strokes for a +42 finish. Akshitha Vemuru, of Herndon, Virginia, finished third at +70.
Boys 10 Under
In the Boys U10 Division, Benjamin Baker of Broadlands, Virginia shot a weekend total of +17 (157 strokes) to take home the first-place title. He led his player field with the lowest scoring average (78.5), the most birdies (4) and the longest birdie or better streak (2). Liam Foster, of Charlottesville, Virginia, finished second with 162 strokes for a +22 finish. Bethesda, Maryland’s Jack Borg finished third at +48 the thirty-six-hole course.
