From June 11-12, 2022, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Virginia Summer Junior Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of six divisions that included the Boys 16-18 Division, Boys 14-15 Division, Boys 11-13 Division, Boys Under 10 Division, Girls 14-18 Division, and Girls Under 13 Division.

Cameron Kapiskosky rom Huntingtown, Maryland was the first-place finisher this weekend. Kapiskosky brought in scores of 70 and 75 for a combined total of 145 for the weekend. Jai Agarwal from Lorton, Virginia was the runner-up this weekend with scores of 75 and 75 for a combined total of 150. Gage Bandy from Round Hill, Virginia finished the top three honors with scores of 80 and 74 for a weekend total of 154.

boys 14-15
Leading the boys 14-15 division was Carter Jillings from Bethesda, MD. He put up scores of 86 in round 1 and 81 in round 2 along with two birdies in the tournament. Jillings took the win with a total of 167 strokes. Carter has been playing with the HJGT since 2021 and frequently places in the Top 10, this week was his 11th top 10 finish. With a total of 171 strokes, Charlie O’Connor places as our runner up honors. O’Connor, from Silver Springs, MD is a newcomer to the HJGT, we’re excited to see how he does on tour in the future. George Sifakis from Alexandria, VA finishes up in the top three honors in his first HJGT tournament. Sifakis put up scores of 87 and 86 totaling 173 strokes.

boys 11-13
In the boys 11-13 division, Landon Rottman from Baltimore, MD finished the tournament as our champion. This was Rottman’s first HJGT tournament of the year as well as his first win. With a score of 74 and 79 his tournament total was 153 strokes. The runner up honors went to Evan Goldsborough from Potomac, MD. Goldsborough brought in his lowest score of 160 strokes along with four birdies. Finishing up top three honors was Benjamin Spencer from Potomac, MD. In his first HJGT tournament, Benjamin brought in scores of 80 and 84 totaling 164 strokes.

In his first HJGT tournament, Carter Hinton from Potomac, MD was our first place winner in the boys under 10 division. His round 1 score of 100 and 107 for round 2 gave him a total of 207 strokes for the tournament. After this tournament, Carter is ranked 12th in the HJGT point rankings.

In the girls 14-18 division, Mikaela McAuley from Haymarket, VA finished in first place. This was Mikaela’s second HJGT tournament and her first win. She brought in scores of 86 and 81 for a tournament total of 167 strokes. Currently, she is in the Top 100 for HJGT point rankings.

To finish off a great tournament, newcomer to the HJGT Avalise Kim from Alexandria, VA took home first place in the girls under 13 division. Avalise did a fantastic job on the course with a scorecard of 181 strokes. In round 1 she brought in a score of 86 and 95 for round 2. The runner up honors went to Alexis Baek from Tyson Corner, VA. Baek had scores of 99 and 104 totaling 203 strokes. Finishing up top three honors, Kathleen Kelly from Fairfax, VA finished the tournament with a total of 245 strokes.
