UNION – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Union County Junior Open this past weekend from July 29-30 at the Galloping Hill Golf Club. Boys and girls traveled from all over the globe to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10 and Girls 14-18.

First place in the boys 16-18 division went to Ryan Jian Huaizhi from Shenzhen, China. With six birdies on the weekend, he brought in a round 1 score of 72 and a round 2 score of 76. Huaizhi ended the weekend with a total score of 148 strokes to take the victory. This follows an outstanding top-three finish at the Trump Westchester Junior Open presented by Perfect Hands Golf. Tied for the runner-up honors on the weekend was Griffin LaLonde from Upper Montclair, NJ and Wenbin Zhao from Qingdao, China. LaLonde brought in scores of 77 and 75 while Zhao had scores of 78 and 74. Both players ended the tournament with a total of 152 strokes.

This weekend he was able to take the win with a score of 159 strokes. Longtime HJGT player Paul Reilly from West Creek, NJ took home the runner-up honors on the weekend. He brought in scores of 82 and 84 totaling 166 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors, Alexander Herrera from Tenafly, NJ brought in a total of 175 strokes for the weekend.

Xu ended the weekend with a total of 159 strokes to take the victory. Claire Yu from Greenwich, CT took home the runner up honors on the weekend. Her scores of 87 in round 1 and 86 in round 2 gave her a weekend total of 173 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors was Veronika Niklin from Staten Island, NY with scores of 86 and 89 totaling 175 strokes.
