LUTZ – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the TPC Tampa Junior Open this week at the TPC of Tampa Bay from July 19-20. Boys and girls traveled from all over the globe to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four division: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.

In the boys 16-18 division, Chi Yeung (Michael) Yuen from Hong Kong, Hong Kong finished the tournament in first place. This was Yuen’s second HJGT tournament of the year and his first win. He brought in one eagle and four birdies along with scores of 69 and 76. Chi Yeung secured the win with a combined score of 145 strokes. The runner up honors went to Max Schmied from Orlando, FL. In his first tournament of the year, he brought in scores of 74 for both days. Schmeid finished the tournament with a score of 148. Tied for the top three honors was Andres Hernandez from Aguascalientes, Mexico and Salome Cristobal from Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Both players brought in an impressive score of 150 strokes.

boys 14-15
Newcomer to the HJGT, Kan Nikorntes from Udonthani, Thailand was our first place finisher in the boys 14-15 division. With six birdies, he brought in scores of 74 in round 1 and a 73 in round 2 for a total of 147 strokes. Nikorntes next HJGT event will be in August at the Boston Summer Finale at Cold Spring. In a tie for the runner up honors was Jonathan Brubaker from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Riccardo Constantino Annibale Cabrini from St Petersburg, FL. Brubaker brought in scores of 77 and 81 while Cabrini brought in scores of 75 and 83. Both brought in a final score of 158 strokes.

Ziang Tang from Chongqing, China placed first in the boys 11-13 division. Tang is a newcomer to the HJGT and this was his first first tournament. With a total of six birdies, he brought in scores of 78 for both days. Ziang finished the tournament with a total of 156 strokes to take home the championship title.

girls 14-18
To finish off a great tournament, Yanxuan Peng from Chongquin, China was our first place finisher in the girls 14-18 division. Peng brought in an exceptional scorecard in her first event of the year. With a total of two birdies, she brought in scores of 76 in round 1 and 77 in round 2. Yanxuan ended with a total of 153 strokes. Lindsey Kerr from Trinity, FL and Amalia Ortega from Quito, Ecuador tied for the runner up honors. Both players brought in scores of 78 and 82 totaling 160 strokes.
