2023 Summer College Prep Series at Vanderbilt
FRANKLIN – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Summer College Prep Series at Vanderbilt Legends Club from July 26-27. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Boys 14-18.

Longtime HJGT player Harper Ackermann from Webster Groves, MO finished in first place in the boys 16-18 division. Ackermann brought in an outstanding scorecard for the tournament. With six birdies, he brought in scores of 69 and 73. Harper ended the tournament with a final score of 142 strokes. This was his second first-place win of the year. Chance Elston from Collierville, TN took home the runner up honors. In round 1 he brought in a score of 70 and a 73 in round 2 along with one eagle and six birdies. His total was 143 strokes, his lowest score so far this year. Finishing up the top three honors was Wilson Borders from Nashville, TN with a scorecard of 147 strokes.

In the boys 14-15 division, Sam Otwell from Signal Mountain, TN was our first place finisher. Otwell finished the tournament with a round 1 score of 79 and a round 2 score of 71 for a total of 150 strokes. This was Sam’s second event of 2023 and his second Top 3 finish. The runner up honors went to Will Abernathy from Athens, AL finishing with a scorecard of 152 strokes. On round 1 he had a score of 79 and a 73 in round 2 along with three birdies. This follows an outstanding first place finish at the Nashville Junior Shootout at Hermitage. With a final score of 154, Wyatt Manner finishes up the top three honors. Manner, from Chattanooga, TN is currently in the Top 15 players of HJGT point rankings.

Andrew Perry from Winchester, KY placed first in the boys 11-13 division. He brought in eight birdies and scores of 76 and 73. Perry finished the tournament with a score of 149 strokes to take the champion title. Andrew is an up-and-coming player on tour, he is ranked within the Top 50 players of the HJGT point rankings. XiangCheng Liu from Qingdao, China and Archie Smith from Dickson, TN tied for the runner-up honors. Both players were able to bring in fantastic scores of 173 strokes.

To finish off a great tournament, Lauren Paige Slatton from McMinnville, TN was the champion in the girls’ 14-18 division. Slatton brought in a fantastic scorecard. With eight birdies, she had scores of 72 in round 1 and 69 in round 2. Lauren Paige finished the tournament with a final score of 141 to take the win. With a final score of 146, Klare Jamison took home the runner up honors. Jamison, from Huntsville, AL is an up-and-coming player on the tour, she is currently ranked in the Top 50 players of HJGT point rankings. Finishing up the top three honors was Mya Morgan from Elizabeth, PA with scores of 73 and 79 totaling 152 strokes.
