LEXINGTON – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Summer College Prep Series at The University Club of Kentucky from July 8-9. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
First place in the boys 16-18 division went to Nick Vilela from Washington, MO. With five birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 75 and 71. Vilela was able to secure his second win of the year with a total of 146 strokes. In a tie for the runner up honors was Tyler Redman from Dublin, OH and Graham Schmidt from Prospect, KY. Both players brought in seven birdies on the weekend and a total score of 150 strokes.
First place in the boys 14-15 division, Lyoto Bellon from Saint Louis, MO. Bellon brought in an impressive scorecard for the weekend. Bellon had eight birdies with scores of 74 and 68. He finished the weekend with a total of 142. This was his best score so far this year and his first win. The runner up honors went to Parker Andersen from New Melle, MO. With a round 1 score of 75 and a round 2 score of 73, he finished the tournament with a final score of 148. Will Stuart from Louisville, KY and Davis Willoughby from McKinney, TX tied for the top three honors. Both players brought in an impressive score of 154 strokes.
Newcomer to the HJGT, Kariann Campbell from Nicholasville, KY finished first in the girls 14-18 division. In her first tournament, she brought in scores of 80 and 78 totaling 158 strokes. Mary Hodge from Keene, KY took home the runner up honors for the weekend. With three birdies and two scores of 81, she finished with a final score of 162. Finishing up the top three honors, Eloise Espinola from Bowling Green, KY brought in 163 strokes.
To finish off a great weekend, Carol Ann Mendenhall from Nicholasville, KY took home first place in the girls under 13 division. Mendenhall received her fifth win of the year this past weekend. For round 1 she put up a score of 77 and a 73 in round 2 for a total of 150 strokes, her best score so far this year.
