STATE COLLEGE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Summer College Prep Series at the Penn State Golf Club from June 3-4. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.

Taking the lead in the boys 16-18 division was Owen Blakely from Wellesley, MA. This was Owen’s fourth tournament of 2023 and his first win. With 10 birdies on the weekend, he scored 70 in round 1 and 72 in round 2. He took the win with 142 strokes. The runner up honors went to Michael Lugiano from Shavertown, PA with a score of 143. Lugiano has played with HJGT since 2019 and has 12 Top 10 finishes. Finishing up top three honors was Thomas Caffarelli from Scottsdale. He brought in scores of 74 and 72 for a total of 146 strokes.

In the boys 14-15 division, Carson Kittsley from Pittsburg, PA finished in first place. This was Kittsley’s second HJGT tournament of the year, last month he placed first at the Pittsburg Junior Open. This past weekend he brought in scores of 73 for round 1 and 74 for round 2 along with eight birdies totaling 147 strokes. Currently he is within the Top 50 of HJGT point rankings. Tied for the runner up honors was Colby Komancheck from Royersford, PA and Max Mottura from Vandergrfit, PA. Komancheck put up scores of 72 and 76 while Mottura scored a 78 and 70, they both finished the weekend with an impressive score of 148.

Dane Mohap from Nazareth, PA is an up-and-coming player on tour. Joining HJGT in March, he has placed first in three other tournaments and is ranked fourth for the HJGT point rankings. Mohap was able to secure a fourth win with 146 strokes. Bringing in his best score in an HJGT tournament, Palmer Freed from Brookeville, MD placed as our runner up honors. With a round 1 score of 77 and round 2 of 76 he totaled 153 strokes for the weekend. Finishing up the top three honors was Sam McLanahan from Hollidaysburg, PA with a score of 188 for the weekend.

Stefania Fedun from Glenmore, PA led the girls 14-18 division this past weekend. Playing in more than 10 HJGT tournaments and placing Top 3 in more than half, she took home the win with six birdies and a total score of 148. In a tie for the runner up honors, Hallie Brown from Tunkhannock, PA played in her first tournament of the year this past weekend and put up scores of 74 and 75 and Madison Koshko from State College, PA brought in scores of 72 and 77. Both girls finished the weekend with an impressive total of 149.

To finish off a great weekend, Olivia Koshko was crowned champion in the girls under 13 division. Koshko, from State College, PA put up a round 1 score of 87 and 101 for round 2. She brought in her third win of the year with a total of 188 strokes.
