STATE COLLEGE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the College Prep Series at Penn State #2 this past weekend from July 29-30 at the Penn State Golf Club. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.

Longtime HJGT player, Michael Lugiano from Shavertown, PA was the first-place winner in the boys 16-18 division. Lugiano brought in an outstanding scorecard for the weekend. With 15 birdies on the weekend, he had scores of 67 and 65. Lugiano finished the weekend with a total score of 132 strokes. This follows a great second place finish at the Summer College Prep Series in June. The runner-up honors went to Connor Mckenzie from Pittsburgh, PA. Bringing in impressive scores of 71 and 69, ending the weekend with a final score of 140. Tied for the top three honors were Jack Geyer from Havre Ge Grace, MD, Jacob Harnden from Grafton, Canada and Kevin Wortmann from Hawley, PA. All three players brought in a score of 142 strokes for the weekend.

In the boys 14-15 division, Luke McGraw from Boalsburg, PA was the first-place finisher. With six birdies on the weekend, he brought in a round 1 score of 72 and a round 2 score of 73. McGraw finished with a total of 145 strokes. McGraw has played in 11 HJGT tournaments and has placed in the Top 2 eight times. Matt Mueller from Gibsonia, PA took home the runner-up honors on the weekend. Bringing in five birdies and scores of 73 for both days, he finished the tournament with a final score of 146. Eli Bintrim finishes up the top three honors. Bintrim, from New Castle, PA, brought in a scorecard of 154 strokes.

In the boys 11-13 division, Zach Lederer from Toronto, Canada placed first. His scores of 78 in round 1 and 77 in round 2 gave him a combined score of 155 strokes. This follows an outstanding win at his first HJGT tournament earlier this month. After participating in his first HJGT tournament, Logan Turner from Berwyn, PA took home the runner-up honors. Bringing in scores of 80 for both days, he had a combined score of 160 strokes. Jacob Davis from Bellefonte, PA finishes up the top three honors with a total of 177 strokes for the weekend.

To finish off a great weekend, longtime HJGT player and third-place points holder, Emily Renoff from Glen Ridge, NJ finished first in the girls 14-18 division. This was Renoff’s sixth Top 10 finish of 2023. This weekend she took the win with 159 strokes. The runner-up honors went to Eva Moawad from Harrisburg, PA in her first HJGT event. With two birdies, she brought in scores of 84 and 81 totaling 165 strokes for the weekend. Olivia DeGori from Moon Township, PA finished up the top three honors with a scorecard of 171 strokes.
