IOWA CITY – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the College Prep Series at Iowa at the Finkbine Golf Course this past weekend from June 10-11. Boys and girls traveled from around the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.

In the boys 16-18 division, Axton Miller from Arthur, IA finished the weekend as our champion. Miller brought in scores of 69 for round 1 and 76 for round 2, along with 8 birdies, he finished the weekend with 145 strokes. This was his first HJGT tournament of the year and his second first place win since joining in 2020. With a final score of 152 strokes, Forrest Benson took home the runner up honors for the weekend. Benson, from Mahomet, IL has participated in a handful of HJGT since joining in 2022 and frequently places in the Top 3. Finishing up top three honors was Tommy Kelley from Omaha, NE. This was Kelley’s first HJGT tournament of the year, he finished the weekend with 153 strokes.

Leading the boys 14-15 division was Riley Christensen from Sioux Falls, SD. Christensen brought in an excellent scorecard this weekend. With four birides on the weekend, he brought in scores of 73 and 83. He finished off the weekend with 156 strokes to take home the champion title. This was Christensen’s second HJGT tournament along with his second win. Tied up for runner up honors was Carson Korver and Charlie Swift. Korver, from Orange City, IA brought in scores of 80 and 77 along with two birdies while Swift, from Harrisburg, MD brought in scores of 78 and 79 with four birdies. Both players finished the weekend with 157 strokes.

Hunter Benson from Mahomet, IL was our first place winner in the boys 11-13 division. Benson did an outstanding job on the course this weekend and brought in his lowest score in an HJGT tournament. With a round 1 score of 82 and 75 for round 2, he had a combined total of 157 strokes. After his first tournament of the year, Hunter is now in the Top 75 for HJGT point rankings. Carter Knigge from Sioux Falls, MD participated in his first ever HJGT tournament this past weekend. Taking home the runner up honors, Knigge had a total score of 188 strokes.

To finish off a great weekend, Addison Davis from Kirksville, MO was crowned the girls under 13 division champion. This was Davis’ second tournament with HJGT and her first win. Her final total for the weekend was 161 strokes. The runner up honors went to Mia Farrar from Blue Springs, MO with a total of 177 strokes.
