PEMBROKE PINES – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Southeast Junior Shootout at the Hollybrook Golf Club from May 13-14. Boys and girls came from around the state to play in the 36-hole tournament.
Alex Morales from Delray Beach, FL placed first in the boys 16-18 division. Morales made par 14 times with 10 birdies, he brought in scores of 74 for both days for a total of 148 for the weekend. Morales has been playing with HJGT since 2020 and placed first in the 2021 Miami Spring Junior Open. Runner up for the weekend is Jack Helmke from Boca Raton, FL. Helmke scored an 86 and 80 for a combined total of 166.
In the boys 14-15 division, Yuanzhou Ye from Weston, FL placed first. He scored an 84 and 80, made par 16 times with five birdies for a weekend total of 164. Borja Friend from Key Biscayne, FL brought in scores of 78 and 86, Friend had a total score of 164 for the weekend putting him as the runner up. Finishing up top three honors is Inigo Friend from Key Biscayne, FL with scores of 84 and 80 for a total of 164. Yuanzhou won in the playoffs.
In the boys 11-13 division, Xeve Perez from Evans, GA and Cole Laffere from Miami, FL both brought in total scores of 152 for the weekend. Perez scored a 75 and 77, he made par 25 times with two birdies and won first place in the playoff. This is his second first place win with HJGT, he placed first in the 2022 54 hole Augusta Junior Open. Laffere scored a 78 and 74 making him runner up for the weekend.
Grace Carter from Jupiter, FL made par 25 times with five birdies and brought in scores of 72 and 73 for a combined total of 145 for the weekend. Carter placed first in the girls 14-18 division, this is her 39th first place win. Runner up went to Abigail Smith from Port Saint Luicie, FL she scored an 84 and 74 totaling 158 for the weekend. Finishing up top three honors, Genesie Rivera from West Palm Beach, FL scored a 112 and 101 for a total of 213.
Girls under 13 division first place, Alyssa Cleckley from West Palm Beach, FL made par two times and brought in scores of 106 and 102 giving her a weekend total of 208. This was Cleckley’s second tournament with HJGT and her first win.
