The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the South Jersey Junior Open this past weekend at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club, where juniors across five divisions faced a true championship test.
Highlights included Grant Bravyak (Marlton, NJ) firing a final-round 68 (-4) to win the Boys 10–11 Division, and Lydia Bernardi (Sewell, NJ) edging out the Girls 14–18 field by a single stroke at 174 (+30). Ryan Totte (Falls Church, VA) impressed with a closing 73 to take the Boys 12–13 title, while Timothy Hauser (Stony Point, NY) and Madelyn Robinson (Holmdel, NJ) captured wins in the Boys 14–15 and Girls U13 Divisions.
From narrow victories to standout rounds under par, the South Jersey Junior Open gave juniors valuable experience in a competitive setting, preparing them for success at the next level.
The Boys 16–18 Division at the South Jersey Junior Open delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the weekend, with three players tied after 36 holes and a playoff needed to crown the champion.
Ryan Roman (Dallas, PA) emerged victorious in the playoff, capturing the title after posting rounds of 75–78 to finish at 153 (+9). Keller Tannehill (Margate, NJ) claimed runner-up honors, while Beau Bliem (Collegeville, PA) secured third — all three finishing regulation tied at 153.
Just one shot back, Daniel Herzchel (Linwood, NJ) finished fourth at 154 (+10) after a strong closing 73, and Harry Traynor (Malvern, PA) rounded out the top five at 156 (+12).
With a crowded leaderboard and a playoff finish, the division showcased resilience and clutch play, making it one of the standout highlights of the South Jersey Junior Open.
The Boys 14–15 Division at the South Jersey Junior Open tested players with a demanding layout at Blue Heron Pines, where consistency proved to be the deciding factor.
Timothy Hauser (Stony Point, NY) captured the championship with rounds of 78–79, finishing at 157 (+13). His steady play across both days gave him a two-shot victory over Lucas Solano (Vineland, NJ), who closed with a strong 76 to finish runner-up at 159 (+15).
Nathan Lavin (Burlington, NJ) secured third place with back-to-back 81s for a total of 162 (+18), while Ethan Clouser (Newtown, PA) finished fourth at 168 (+24). Three players — Cameron Glynn (Fanwood, NJ), Joseph Recco (Hazlet, NJ), and Max Trudell (Hoboken, NJ) — shared fifth at 178 (+34).
The division highlighted perseverance from top to bottom, with players battling through tough conditions to gain valuable competitive experience.
The Boys 12–13 Division showcased competitive play at Blue Heron Pines, with strong rounds highlighting the weekend.
Ryan Totte (Falls Church, VA) captured the championship with scores of 75–73, finishing at 148 (+4). His steady second round of 73 proved to be the best of the division and sealed a seven-shot victory.
Preston Minio (Lansdale, PA) earned runner-up honors with rounds of 79–76 for a total of 155 (+11). Daniel Ruggiero (Mays Landing, NJ) rounded out the top three at 169 (+25) after opening with 83.
Further down the board, James Gannon (Doylestown, PA) and Patrick Thomas (Wilmington, DE) finished fourth and fifth, while competitors battled through challenging conditions to gain valuable experience.
The division highlighted resilience and consistency, with Totte’s final-round performance setting the standard.
The Boys 10–11 Division featured one of the standout performances of the weekend.
Grant Bravyak (Marlton, NJ) delivered an impressive showing, firing a 68 (-4) in the final round — the lowest round in his division — to capture the title at 145 (+1). His strong finish built on an opening 77 and set him well ahead of the field.
Christian Folz (Churchville, PA) earned runner-up honors with rounds of 111–102 for a total of 213 (+69), gaining valuable experience while competing on a challenging course.
Bravyak’s ability to go under par highlighted his potential and made the Boys 10–11 Division one of the tournament’s most exciting storylines.
The Girls 14–18 Division produced a tightly packed leaderboard, with several players within just a few strokes of each other down the stretch.
Lydia Bernardi (Sewell, NJ) emerged as the champion, posting rounds of 88–86 to finish at 174 (+30) and secure a narrow one-shot victory.
Right behind her, Mia Martinez (Little Egg Harbor, NJ) finished runner-up at 175 (+31), while three players — Stella Bernardi (Sewell, NJ), Olivia Sheen (Paramus, NJ), and Lauren Springman (Audubon, PA) — all tied for third at 176 (+32).
Further down the board, Anya Balakumaran (Westfield, NJ) and Gabrielle Hamstead (Milton, DE) battled through challenging conditions to round out the field.
The division highlighted the depth of competition, with Lydia Bernardi’s consistency across both rounds proving just enough to capture the title in a thrilling finish.
The Girls U13 Division featured Madelyn Robinson (Holmdel, NJ), who battled through the course at Blue Heron Pines to secure the division title. Robinson posted rounds of 106–103 for a two-day total of 209 (+65).
Her determination and perseverance stood out across both rounds, turning the weekend into a valuable learning experience and a strong step forward in her junior golf journey.
