ST. SIMONS – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Saint Simons Island Junior Open at the King and Prince Golf Course on July 23rd. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 18-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.

In the boys 16-18 division, Alex Hays from Bonaire, GA finished the tournament in first place. This was his first win of the year. With six birdies, he had a tournament total of 69 strokes. He is currently in the Top 3 players of HJGT point rankings. In his first event of the year, Marcus Leonard from Atlanta, GA took home the runner up honors. Leonard brought in six birdies and had a total score of 71 strokes. Josh Setiadi from West Jakarta, Indonesia finishes up the top three honors with a final score of 76.

boys 14-15
Harper Staggs from St. Simons Island, GA placed first in the boys 14-15 division. This was Staggs second tournament of the year and his first win. He had one birdie on the weekend and a score of 79 strokes. Newcomer to the HJGT Derek Wolfe from Greenwich, CT placed as the runner up honors on the weekend. Wolfe put up a score of 86 strokes for the tournament. Finishing up top three honors was Peter Merk from Titusville, NJ with a score of 90 strokes.

boys 11-13
In the boys 11-13 division, Asher Hall from Tallahasse, FL finished the tournament as our champion. Hall did a great job on the course in his first event of the year. He brought in one birdie on the weekend with a final score of 84 strokes. We applaud Asher for his efforts on the course and hope to see him on tour in the future. The runner up honors went to Aiden Wilkinson from Baxley, GA with a score of 88 strokes. Currently he is within the Top 20 players of HJGT point rankings.

girls 14-18
To finish off a great weekend, Bryn Sorge from Savannah, GA was crowned champion of the girls 14-18 division. She was able to secure the win with a total of 82 strokes. This was Bryn’s fourth Top 10 finish of the year. Brianna Bassett from McDonough, GA, Alexa Mohler from Richmond Hill, GA and Aubrey Payne from Trussville, GA all tied for the runner up honors. All three players brought in an impressive score of 84 strokes.
