ALTON – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Saint Louis Summer Junior Open this past weekend July 15-16 at the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
In the boys 16-18 division, Harper Ackermann from Webster Groves, MO and Nick Vilela from Washington, MO tied up for the first place champion title. Both players were able to bring in an impressive scorecard for the weekend. Ackermann with one eagle and five birdies, brought in scores of 74 for round 1 and 71 for round 2. Vilela with one eagle and four birdies, brought in scores of 70 in round 1 and and 75 in round 2. Both players finished with a final score of 145 strokes. Ben Gelven from Saint Louis, MO finishes up the top three honors. He brought in scores of 75 and 74 giving him a combined total of 149 strokes. Gelven is currently within the Top 20 players of HJGT point rankings.
In the boys 14-15 division, Parker Andersen from New Melle, MO and Lyoto Bellon from Saint Louis, MO tied for first place. Parker brought in eight birdies on the weekend while Lyoto brought in five. Both players brought in scores of 73 and 72 for a total of 145 strokes. We applaud both players for their efforts on the course this past weekend.
Ivan Kennedy from O’Fallon, MO was our first place champion in the boys 11-13 division this past weekend. Ivan did an outstanding job on the course to secure his third win of the year. With two birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 78 and 80. He finished the tournament with a total of 158 strokes. With a final score of 160, Brendan Gibson took home the runner up honor on the weekend. Gibson, from Columbia, IL is a longtime HJGT player with over 20 Top 10 finishes under his belt. Finishing up top three honors, Dylan Press from St. Louis, MO with a total of 170 strokes. This Top 3 finish follows and outstanding second place finish at the Kansas City Junior Open at Eagles Landing.
To finish off a great weekend, Reese Reinhardt from St. Louis, MO finished the weekend as our champion in the girls 14-18 division. This was Reinhardt’s third event of 2023 and her first win. With six birdies on the weekend, she brought in scores of 83 and 79. Reese was able to secure the win with a total of 162 strokes. Mallory Crane from Grain Valley, MO and Morgan Withington from St. Louis, MO tied for the runner up honors on the weekend. Both players were able to bring in an impressive score of 163 strokes.
