FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Saint Louis Junior Open at Stonewolf Golf Club on August 3. Boys and girls traveled from all over the globe to participate in the 18-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
Tied for first place in the boys 16-18 division was Hongrui Su from Xiamen, China and Qifeng Tong from Tianjin, China. Both players brought in two birdies and had a total score of 74 strokes. This was both players’ first tournament with the HJGT and they did a great job on the course. Finishing up the top three honors was Owen Farley from St. Louis, MO in his first HJGT event of 2023. With one eagle and six birdies, he brought in a scorecard of 75 strokes.
Mukt Patel from St. Louis, MO and Carson Tribout from Belleville, IL tied for first place in the boys 14-15 division. Mukt brought in two birdies while Tribout brought in four, both finished the tournament with a total of 78 strokes. This was both players first win of the year, we applaud their efforts on the course.
In the boys 11-13 division, Liam Weller from Des Peres, MO was the first place finisher. Ranked in the Top 10 players of the HJGT point rankings, Liam has 10 Top 10 finishes this year. This week, he secured the win with a total of 86 strokes. The runner-up honors went to Brendan Gibson from Columbia, IL. This was Gibson’s seventh Top 2 finish of 2023. He brought in a score of 87 strokes for the weekend.
To finish off a great tournament, Ali Perry from St. Joseph, MO participated in her first HJGT tournament and finished in first place in the girls 14-18 division. With two birdies, she put up a final score of 78 strokes. Perry’s next HJGT tournament will be later this month at the Kansas City Junior Open at Shoal Creek. Sophie Nall from Oakville, MO took home the runner up honors with a scorecard of 86 strokes. Newcomer Maya Kampwerth from Aviston, IL finishes up the top three honors with a score of 94 strokes.
