OXFORD – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Philly Junior Open at Wyncote Golf Club from August 2-3. Boys and girls traveled from all over the globe to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10 and Girls 14-18.
In the boys 16-18 division, Chi Mou (Kevin) Feng from Kaohsiung, Taiwan finished the tournament in first place. Feng brought in an exceptional scorecard for the tournament. With six birdies, he brought in scores of 78 and 75. He finished the tournament with a total of 153 strokes to secure his first win of 2023. The runner-up honors went to Michael Dignazio from Wilmington, DE. This was Dignazio’s second event of 2023 and he brought in his lowest score. Bringing in six birdies along with scores of 74 and 80, totaling 154 strokes. Marshall Kain from Newton Square, PA finishes up the top three honors with scores of 74 and 81 for a total of 155 strokes.
Leading the boys 14-15 division was Lucas Kozak from Phoenixville, PA. For round 1, Kozak brought in three birdies and a score of 72 and for round 2, he had two birdies and a score of 79. He was able to take the victory with a total of 151 strokes and take home his first win of the year. With a final score of 159, Carson Hummer places as the runner-up honors. Hummer, from Hershey, PA is an up-and-coming player on the tour, he is currently ranked within the Top 50 players of the HJGT point rankings. Finishing up the top three honors was Ian Larsen from Glenmore, PA with scores of 79 and 81 for a combined total of 160 strokes.
In the boys 11-13 division, Dane Mohap from Nazareth, PA finished in first place. Mohap has been playing with the HJGT since early 2023 and has placed first in eight tournaments. This week, he brought in one eagle, eight birdies and scores of 72 and 69, totaling 141 strokes. The runner-up honors went to London Amsinger from Montclair, NJ. In round 1 he scored an 86 and in round 2 he scored a 78 for a combined total of 164 strokes, his best score so far this year. With a final score of 180, Ethan Clouser from Newton, PA finishes up the top three honors.
Newcomer to the HJGT, Armaan Iqbal from Wilmington, DE was the first-place finisher in the boys under 10 division. With a round 1 score of 119 and a round 2 score of 98, he ended with a total of 217 strokes. We hope to see Iqbal on tour again soon.
To finish off a great tournament, Makayla Stone from Garnet Valley, PA took home first place in the girls 14-18 division. With a total of six birdies, she brought in scores of 78 and 79. Stone secured her first tournament win with a total of 157 strokes. This follows an outstanding second-place finish at the Philadelphia Summer Junior Open. Serena Bagga from Blue Bell, PA and Reagan Wison from Kennett Square, PA tied for the runner up honors. Both players brought in a total of two birdies and a final score of 165.
