GILBERTSVILLE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Philadelphia Summer Junior Open at the Hickory Valley Golf Club from June 24-25. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
In the boys 16-18 division, Hunter Probst from Bear Creek, PA was our first place finisher this past weekend. Probst has been playing with HJGT since 2020 and has participated in over 20 tournaments with a majority resulting in a Top 10 finish. Hunter was able to secure the win with four birdies on the weekend and a total score of 148 strokes. His next tournament will be at the Toftrees Junior Open in the beginning of July. Matthew Hurchalla from Wallingford, PA and Cyrus Parvizi from Gladwyne, PA tied up for the runner up honors. Both players did an outstanding job bringing in four birdies on the weekend along with a total score of 150 strokes.
Newcomer to the HJGT, Chase Yenser from Douglasville, GA takes home the win in the boys 14-15 division. With four birdies on the weekend, he had scores of 72 and 78. Yenser finished the weekend with a total of 150 strokes. This was his second tournament of the year and his first win. With a final score of 151, Anestis Kalderemtzis places as our runner up honors for the weekend. Kalderemtzis, from Glen Mills, PA has played in three HJGT tournaments and placed Top 3 each time. He is currently within the Top 30 of HJGT point rankings. Tied up for the top three honors was Declan Conner from Swarthmore, PA and Armaan Osterman from Fairfax, VA. Both players were able to bring in impressive scores of 156 strokes.
Leading the boys 11-13 division was Sebastian Park from Landsdale, PA. This was Park’s second HJGT tournament of the year and he did an outstanding job on the course. With two birdies on the weekend, he had scores of 88 and 86. He was able to take the win with a total of 174 strokes. The runner up honors went to Ethan Clouser from Newton, PA with a final score of 176. This was Clouser’s first Top 3 finish of the year.
To finish off a great weekend, Naaz Mehta from Newton, PA was crowned champion of the girls 14-18 division. Naaz is a newcomer to the HJGT, this was her second tournament of the year and her first win. With a round 1 score of 85 and round 2 of 77 she finished the weekend with a total of 162 strokes. The runner up honors went to Makayla Stone from Garnet Valley, PA, she finished the weekend with scores of 83 and 81 totaling 164 strokes. Ava Hneleski from Springfield, PA finishes up the top three honors with scores of 83 and 84 for a toal of 167 strokes.
