HUNTINGDON VALLEY – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Philadelphia Junior Open at Philmont Country Club from July 19-20. Boys and girls traveled from all over the globe to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had three divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15 and Girls 14-18.
In the boys 16-18 division, newcomer Ryan Jian Huaizhi from Shenzhen, China finished in first place. Huaizhi did a fantastic job in his first tournament and brought in an exceptional scorecard. With a total of nine birdies, he brought in scores of 74 and 70. Ryan ended the tournament with a final score of 144. Charles Barrickman from West Chester, PA, Nolan Corcoran from Lansdale, PA and Judah Fulchiero from Wesley Chapel, FL all tied for the runner up honors. Barrickman brought in one eagle, eight birdies and scores of 69 and 78 while Corcoran and Fulchiero brought in scores of 72 and 75. All three players were able to bring in an impressive score of 147 strokes.
Will Johnson from Berwyn, PA was the champion in the boys 14-15 division. Johnson had five birdies along with scores of 75 in round 1 and 78 in round 2. Will finished the tournament with 153 strokes to take the win. Johnson has played in more than 20 HJGT tournaments and has placed in the Top 3 18 times. The runner up honors went to Lucas Albert from Fort Washington, PA. In round 1 he brought in a score of 78 and a 79 in round 2 totaling 157. This was his second tournament of the year and his best score. With a final score of 162, Declan Conner finishes up the top three honors. Conner, from Swarthmore, PA is an up-and-coming player on tour and is within the Top 30 players of HJGT point rankings.
Finishing off a great tournament, Jiabao Fu from Shanghai, China was our first place finisher in the girls 14-18 division. This was Fu’s first HJGT tournament. With seven birdies, she had scores of 69 in round 1 and 74 in round 2. Jiaboa secured her win with a total of 143 strokes. The runner up honors went to Lola Barnett from Hatboro, PA. Barnett brought in scores of 75 and 85 totaling 160 strokes. Lola has been playing in HJGT tournaments since 2019, this was her 23rd Top 10 finish. Nicole Yun from Limerick, PA finished up the top three honors with a total score of 167 strokes.
