ELWOOD CITY – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Old Stonewall Junior Open at the Olde Stonewall Golf Club from July 19-20. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had three divisions; Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15 and Girls 14-18.
Leading the boys 16-18 division was William Hilton from Gibsonia, PA. Hilton brought in a great scorecard to secure his first win of the year. With a total of six birdies, he had scores of 69 in round 1 and 72 in round 2. William finished the tournament in first place with a total of 141 strokes, his lowest score so far this year. Ravi Desai from Pittsburgh, PA and Ryan Watterson from McMurray, PA tied for the runner up honors. Both players brought in scores of 75 and 76 for a total of 151 strokes.
In the boys 14-15 division, David DiGregory was our first place finisher. DiGregory, from Pittsburgh, PA is an up-and-coming player on tour, this was his sixth Top 3 finish of the year and he is within the Top 10 players of HJGT point rankings. In round 1 he brought in a score of 83 and an 82 in round 2 totaling 165 strokes for the tournament. Newcomer, Eli Bintrim from New Castle, PA placed as the runner up honors. With three birdies, he brought in scores of 89 and 81 for a final score of 170. Michael Caruso from Pittsburgh, PA finishes up top three honors with scores of 88 for both days totaling 176 strokes.
Finishing up a great tournament, Grace Vernon from Louisville, KY was crowned champion of the girls 14-18 division. This was her first win of the year. In round 1 she brought in a score of 89 and an 88 in round 2. Grace secured her win with a combined score of 177 strokes. Pearl Lundgren from Moon Twp, PA took home the runner up honors. Lundgren finished the tournament with scores of 90 and 91 totaling 181 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors was Megan Manesiotis from Wexford, PA with a final score of 198 strokes.
