Nothern Virginia Junior Open at Westfields

CLIFTON – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Northern Virginia Junior Open at Westons Golf Club from August 9-10. Boys and girls traveled from all over the globe to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10 and Girls 14-18.
boys 16-18
In the boys 16-18 division, Henry Brown from Falls Church, VA placed first after securing a playoff win against Shenzhe Dai. Brown finished the weekend with a round 1 score of 75 and a round 2 score of 72, ending the weekend with 148 strokes. This is Brown’s second event of 2023 and his first win. Shenzhe Dai from Beijing, China placed as the runner-up honors in his first HJGT event. His scores of 72 in round 1 and 76 in round 2 gave him a total of 148 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors was Yushen Lan from Nanjing, China with a scorecard of 152 strokes.

boys 14-15
Leading the boys 14-15 division was Armaan Osterman from Fairfax, VA. Osterman brought in an exceptional scorecard for the tournament. With five birdies, he brought in scores of 76 in round 1 and 74 in round 2. Armaan finished the tournament with 150 strokes to take home the champion title. Osterman has been playing with the HJGT since 2020 playing in 31 tournaments. With a highly decorated HJGT record, Armaan has 15 Top 3 finishes. Newcomer Sawyer Davis from Manassas, VA took home the runner-up honors. With four birdies, he brought in scores of 74 in round 1 and 77 in round 2, totaling 151 strokes. With a final score of 155, Joseph Vartabedian from Crofton, MD finishes up the top three honors.

boys 11-13
Ethan Trobaugh from Aldie, VA was the first-place finisher in the boys 11-13 division. Trobaugh did a fantastic job on the course to bring in his first HJGT win. In round 1 he brought in one birdie and a score of 71, in round 2 he brought in one birdie and a score of 78. Ethan took home the win with a final score of 149 strokes. The runner-up honors went to Benjamin Spencer from Potomac, MD. Spencer finished the weekend with a scorecard of 151 strokes. In round 1 he had a score of 70 and an 81 in round 2. This follows an outstanding third-place finish at the Virginia Summer Junior Open with a final score of 164. Finishing up top three honors, Charlie Wisniewski from Arlington, VA brought in a total of 162 strokes for the tournament.

boys 10 & under
Zac Collucci from Aldie, VA was crowned champion of the boys under 10 division. This was Collucci’s second event with the HJGT, previously he placed first at the Kingsmill Junior Open with a score of 218. His scores of 105 in round 1 and 99 in round 2 gave him a final score of 204 strokes.

girls 14-18
To finish off a great tournament, Sophie Ochiai from Great Falls, VA was the first-place finisher in the girls 14-18 division. Ochiai is an up-and-coming player on the tour, she did a great job on the course to secure her first HJGT win. Her scores of 86 and 87 gave her a total of 173 strokes for the weekend.
