2022 Northern Ohio Junior Open

From June 18-19, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Northern Ohio Junior Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of five divisions that included the Boys 16-18 Division, Boys 14-15 Division, Boys U10 Division, Girls 14-18 Division, and Girls U13 Division.

Ajay Morris from Avondale, Arizona was the first-place finisher this weekend. Morris brought in scores of 78 and 77 for a combined total of 155 for the weekend. Will Campbell from Mars, Pennsylvania was the runner up for the weekend with scores of 81 and 77 for a combined total of 158. Blake Bertolo from Gibsonia, Pennsylvania finished tied for third with scores of 81 and 78 for a weekend total of 159. Zachary Ross from Moon Township, Pennsylvania finished the top three honors tied for third with scores of 82 and 77 for a weekend total of 159.

In the boys 14-15 division, Cameron Stafford from Medina, OH was our first place finisher this past weekend. Stafford is a newcomer to the HJGT, this was his second tournament and his second win. His scores of 88 and 79 gave him a weekend total of 167. With a total score of 172 strokes, Nathan Chege took home runner up honors. Chege, from Olmsted Falls, OH joined the HJGT this year and this was his 3rd Top 2 finish. He is currently within the Top 15 in HJGT point rankings. Finishing up top three honors, in his first HJGT tournament of the year was Luke Voinovich from Hudson, OH. Luke put up scores of 95 and 93 totaling 188 strokes.

Trent Riedel from Medina, OH was our champion in the boys 11-13 division. This was Riedel’s second HJGT tournament of the year and his second win. He brought in scores of 84 in round 1 and 80 in round 2. Trent finished off the weekend with a total of 164 strokes.

girls 14-18
To finish off a great weekend, newcomer Eliza Mercer from Gahanna, OH took home first place in the girls 14-18 division. This was Mercer’s second HJGT tournament, she did a fantastic job on the course. With four birdies on the weekend, she put up scores of 89 and 79. Eliza finished the weekend with a total of 168 strokes. Ava Liburdi and Luciana Masters both from Hermitage, PA tied for the runner up honors on the weekend. Both players were able to bring in impressive scores of 175 strokes.
