WEST TRENTON – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Northern NJ Spring Junior Open at the Mountain View Golf Course from May 20-21. Boys and girls traveled from around the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
Caden Blanchette from Manchester, PA led the boys 16-18 division this weekend and played a great game. With six birdies on the weekend, his scores of 71 and 70 brought him to his first place win with a total score of 141 strokes. Blanchette has been playing with HJGT since 2021 and this is his third win. Taking home runner up honors was Liam Moloney from Chester, NY with a total score of 146 strokes. Moloney has played in two other HJGT tournaments this year, he’s done so well he’s in the top 20 in the HJGT point rankings and will be playing in the Mid-Season Invitational in July. Rydger Hodgson from Montclair, NJ placed in top three honors and finished the weekend with 149 strokes.
In the boys 14-15 division, Quin Zuegner from New Hope, PA took home a first place win for the second weekend in a row. He brought in scores of 77 and 75 with three birdies. Zuegner finished off the weekend 152 strokes. With a close score, CJ Antifonario from Tenafly, NJ placed as runner up honors. With three birdies on the weekend, his scores of 79 and 74 gave him a combined total of 153 strokes. Will Johnson from Berwyn, PA is our top three finisher with a weekend total of 160 strokes. Johnson has been playing with HJGT since 2022 and has competed in almost 20 tournaments placing top three in just about all of them.
Leading the boys 11-13 division was Brady Cassidy from Gladstone, NJ. Cassidy played an excellent game this weekend and brought in great scores. With one birdie on the weekend, he scored an 83 and 82. Cassidy finished the weekend with 164 strokes to take the first place win. After playing with HJGT in over 10 tournaments this is Brady’s first win. With a final score of 166, Axel Brandes took home runner up honors. Brandes, from Bernardsville, NJ, has played with HJGT since 2020 and is currently in the top 100 in the HJGT point rankings.
Stefania Fedun from Glenmoore, PA was the first place finisher in the girls 14-18 division this past weekend. Fedun has played with HJGT since 2020 and has placed in the top 2 almost 10 times. She was able to secure her win this weekend with a total of 143 strokes. Stefania’s next event with HJGT will be in June at the Summer College Prep Series at Penn State. The runner up honors went to Emily Renoff from Glen Ridge, NJ. Renoff put up scores of 70 and 77 totaling 147 strokes. Finishing up top three honors, Marisa Flores from Paramus, NJ brought in a total score of 150 for the weekend.
