WINDER – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the North Georgia Junior Open at the Chimney’s Golf Course from June 3-4. Boys and girls traveled from around the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
Griffin Tully led the boys 16-18 division this past weekend. Tully, from Woodstock, GA brought in an excellent scorecard this weekend along with his best score in an HJGT tournament. With seven birdies on the weekend, he put up scores of 76 and 69. Griffin finished the weekend with 145 strokes to take the win. With 10 birdies and a total score of 146, Zane May places as the runner up honors. May, from Canton, GA has played in 14 other HJGT tournaments and this weekend he brought in his lowest score yet. Griffin Latimer from Canton, GA and Nicholas Martina from Alpharetta, GA tied for top three honors with five birdies on the weekend and a total score of 150.
Jack Brewster from Johns Creek, GA won first place in the boys 14-15 division. Bringing in scores of 78 for round 1 and 76 for round 2, he had a weekend total of 154 strokes. The runner up honors went to Sam Rayment from Leesburg, GA. He put up scores of 95 and 86 totaling 181. Finishing up top three honors from Chattanooga, TN was Ben Gordon with a total of 185. All three of these boys are newcomers to HJGT and we applaud them for their efforts on the course this weekend.
Yeheejee Lee from Buford, GA brought in her best scores this weekend and won first place in the girls 14-18 division. She was able to secure the victory with scores of 81 and 80 totaling 161 strokes. Lee’s next event with the HJGT will be later this month at the Atlanta Junior Open at Hamilton Mill. The runner up honors went to Allison Maher from Suwanee, GA. Maher put up scores of 79 and 86 for a weekend total of 165. Finishing up top three honors, Reagan Henderson from Evans, GA brought in a total of 171 for the weekend.
To finish off a great weekend, Vivian Lott from Fayetteville, GA took home the first place win in the girls under 13 division. This was Lott’s fourth win in a row for 2023. With eight birdies on the weekend, she put up scores of 82 and 72. She secured her win with 154 strokes. Elizabeth Alikhver from Suwanee, GA places as the runner up honors. This was Alikhver’s first tournament with HJGT, her final total of the weekend was 310 strokes.
