North Georgia Holiday Junior Classic at the Chimneys
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour closed out Thanksgiving weekend in Georgia with a dramatic and wind-tested North Georgia Holiday Junior Classic at The Chimneys Golf Course, where nerves, shot-making, and late-round grit shaped every leaderboard. Across all divisions, players were thrown into a true test of patience and precision, battling cold air, firm greens, and a layout that punished hesitation. But out of that challenge came standout performances, clutch playoff moments, and breakout wins that defined the final fall stop in North Georgia.
The headline drama belonged to the Boys 16–18 division, where Drew Corbel and Matthew Runckel finished deadlocked at +5, forcing a playoff shootout that electrified the gallery. Runckel had surged with a final-round 71, the best number of the day, but Corbel answered every punch—first with his steady 71–78 two-round total, and then with icy composure in the playoff, burying the crucial putt that sealed his victory. Behind them, Davis Blackmon, Cooper Hawkins and Roane Taylor all delivered competitive runs but couldn’t keep pace with the two-man duel that defined the weekend.
In Boys 14–15, Bryton Brooks was a force from start to finish. His combination of power and calm decision-making carried him to a +11 total of 155, highlighted by a gritty closing 75 that distanced him from runner-up Logan Scott. The fight for the final podium spots saw constant movement, but Brooks’ control under pressure ultimately separated him as the class of the field.
The Boys 12–13 division belonged to Lewis Armstrong, who delivered one of the most polished performances of the entire tournament. Armstrong’s 74–76 (150) was a model of discipline, navigating The Chimneys’ risk-reward routing with maturity beyond his years. Graham Heberling battled hard for second, but Armstrong never allowed the door to open once he took control.
In Boys 10–11, Julius Krebs put on one of the most explosive turnarounds of the season. After opening with a challenging 115, he stormed back with a stunning 58—a statement round that showcased raw talent and remarkable mental resilience. His comeback secured the division title and became one of the weekend’s biggest storylines.
On the girls’ side, the Girls 14–18 field saw Allison Maher rise above with a powerful two-day showing of 78–74 (152). Her composed Saturday performance put her in position, but her Sunday round—marked by precision from tee to green—pushed her clear of the charging Kennedy Sparkman, who finished second at 160. Maher’s win was the product of steady ball-striking and point-blank putting, a complete tournament effort.
The Girls U13 division delivered another standout moment, with Brynn Mason showcasing poise and dominance on her way to the title. Mason fired 75–40 (115), pairing a strong opening round with a composed closing nine that left no doubt. Behind her, Mia Simpkins and Daisy Ng battled fiercely for position, but Mason’s command of the course set her apart.
From playoffs to runaway wins to unexpected comebacks, The Chimneys delivered a weekend full of momentum-shifting moments and rising-star performances. As always, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour provided the stage—and North Georgia’s young competitors delivered the drama.
