HOPEWELL JUNCTION – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the New York Summer Junior Open this past weekend at the Beekman Golf Club from August 12-13. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.

Enze Miao from Thousand Oaks, CA finished in first place this past weekend in the boys 16-18 division. This was Miao’s second event of the year and his first win. With six birdies on the weekend, he brought in a round 1 score of 67 and a round 2 score of 75. Miao finished the tournament with a final score of 142. This follows an outstanding third place finish at the Boston Summer Finale at Cold Spring. The runner-up honors went to Colin Barber from Victory, NY. Barber’s scores of 76 and 73 gave him a weekend total of 149 strokes. Barber has been playing with the HJGT since 2019 with six Top 10 finishes under his belt. In his first event of 2023, William Chouinard from Hamilton, NY finishes up the top three honors with a scorecard of 151 strokes.

In the boys 14-15 division, Kaiden Capurso from Bayport, NY was the first-place winner this past weekend. With six birdies, he brought in scores of 73 in round 1 and 75 in round 2, ending the tournament with a total of 148 strokes. This was Capurso’s sixth event of 2023 and his fourth Top 3 finish. Ravi Khanna from Fairfield, CT took home the runner-up honors on the weekend. Khanna had an exceptional scorecard for the weekend. With eight birdies, he had scores of 75 and 75 for a final score of 153 strokes. Currently, he is ranked within the Top 20 players of the HJGT point rankings. Finishing up the top three honors was Nikhil Sahu from Paramus, NJ with a scorecard of 162 strokes.

Newcomer, Kian Murphy from Yorktown, NY was the champion of the boys 11-13 division. Bringing in scores of 77 for both days, he brought in his best HJGT score of 154 strokes. Murphy’s next tournament will be later this month at the North New Jersey Junior Open, we hope to see another win. With a final score of 162, Carson Lowe took home the runner-up honors on the weekend. Lowe, from West Palm Beach, FL is ranked in the Top 15 of HJGT point rankings. Xinghao Qian from Scarsdale, NY finishes up the top three honors with a scorecard of 182 strokes.

To finish off a great weekend, Chole Ji was champion in the girls 14-18 division. Ji brought in a round 1 score of 76 and a 77 in round 2. She was able to take the victory win with a total of 153 strokes. This was her second event of the year and first win. The runner-up honors went to Claire Yu from Greenwich, CT. With four birdies on the weekend, she had scores of 81 and 83, totaling 164 strokes. In her first event of the year, Alana Flores from Paramus, NJ finishes up the top three honors with scores of 84 and 81, ending the weekend with 165 strokes.
