2022 New Jersey Summer Junior Open

From June 18-19, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the New Jersey Summer Junior Open. The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of five divisions that included the Boys 16-18 Division, Boys 14-15 Division, Boys 11-13 Division, Boys U10 Division and Girls 14-18 Division.
boys 16-18
Elias Tamer Simon from Veracruz, Mexico was the first-place finisher this weekend. Tamer Simon brought in scores of 76 and 77 for a combined total of 153 for the weekend. Kevin Lafond from Blue Bell, Pennsylvania tied for the runner up for the weekend with scores of 73 and 82 for a combined total of 155. Miles Martin from Hopewell, New Jersey finished tied for the runner up honors with scores of 79 and 76 for a weekend total of 155.

In the boys 14-15 division, Daniel Herzchel from Linwood, NJ took home the champion title. Herzchel finished the weekend with a round 1 score of 83 and a 78 in round 2. His total for the weekend was 161 strokes. This is Daniel’s second event of 2023 and his first win. Ben Aronson from Dearmest, NJ and Ryan Quigley from Holmdel, NJ tied for the runner up honors on the weekend. Both players were able to bring in impressive scores of 164 strokes.

Axel Brandes from Bernardsville, NJ was the first place finisher in the boys 11-13 division. With seven birdies on the weekend, he put up scores of 73 and 78 totaling 151 strokes. Brandes is a long time HJGT player with over 20 tournaments under his belt, 13 of them being Top 2 finishes. He is currently 9th in the HJGT point rankings. With a total score of 160 strokes, Thomas Luu places as our runner up honors. Luu, from Mullica Hills, NJ is an up-and-coming player on tour. He is currently within the Top 30 of HJGT point rankings. Finishing up top three honors was Brady Cassidy from Gladstone, NJ with a total of 166 strokes on the weekend.

Reigning champion, Liam Rotatori does it again, taking home first place for the boys under 10 division for the ninth weekend in a row. His scores of 87 in round 1 and 82 in round 2, he finished the weekend with a total of 169. The runner up honors went to Julian Ossorio from Basking Ridge, NJ with a total score of 212. This was Julian’s 3rd Top 3 finish of the year, he is currently within the Top 10 of HJGT point rankings.

girls 14-18
With almost identical scorecards, Hallie Brown from Tunkhannock, PA and Minna Liang from Holmdel, NJ tied for first place in the girls 14-18 division. Both girls brought in round 1 scores of 83 and 80 in round 2 along with two birdies. They finished the weekend with a total of 163 strokes. In her second HJGT tournament, Mikayla Stone from Garnet Valley, PA finishes up in the top three honors with a total of 177 strokes.

To finish off a great weekend, Julie Costello from Ocean City, NJ was the champion in the girls under 13 division. This was Costello’s second HJGT tournament and her first win. Her scores of 114 and 111 gave her a weekend total of 225.
