Minnesota Summer Junior Open
NORTHFIELD – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Minnesota Summer Junior Open at the Willingers Golf Club from July 12-13. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had three divisions; Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15 and Girls 14-18.

In the boys 16-18 division, Andrew Ballou from Victoria, MN played in his first tournament of the year and finished in first place. Ballou brought in an exceptional scorecard for the tournament. With a total of seven birdies, he brought in a round 1 score of 68 and a 75 for round 2. Andrew secured his win with a total of 143 strokes. The runner up honors went to Joseph Rohlwing from Apple Valley, MN. With a total of six birdies, he brought in scores of 73 for round 1 and 75 for round 2 totaling 148 strokes. Finishing up top three honors, Christian Goralski from North Oaks, MN put up scores of 76 and 73 for a total of 149.

Leading the boys 14-15 division was newcomer Sander Ohe from Edina, MN. Ohe did an outstanding job in his first HJGT tournament. He brought in one eagle and five birdies along with scores of 76 and 73. He took home the first place victory with a total of 149 strokes. Jake Heinrich from Prior Lake, MN places as our runner up honors. Heinrich did a fantastic job on the course and brought in his best tournament score of the year. For round 1 he brought in a score of 74 and a 79 for round 2 giving him a total score of 153. With a final score of 159, Elias Ekern from Northfield, MN finishes up the top three honors.

To finish off a great tournament, Carly Lukins from Zeeland, MI played in her first HJGT tournament and was the first place champion in the Girls 14-18 division. Lukins had a total of five birdies and scores of 77 and 81. She was able to take the win with 158 strokes. Carly’s next time playing with the HJGT will be in August at the Milwaukee Summer Junior Open, we hope to see another win. The runner up honors went to Kelby Anderson from International Falls, MN. Anderson’s scores of 83 in round 1 and 82 in round 2 gave her a combined score of 165 strokes. Newcomer Audrey Steeves from Maple Grove, MN finishes up the top three honors with a total of 203 strokes.
