PALM BEACH – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Major Championship at the Village Golf Course from June 3-4. Boys and girls traveled from around the world to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Girls 14-18 and Girls U13.
In the boys 16-18 division, Reese Woodbury from Stuart, FL was our first place finisher for the weekend, he brought in an outstanding scorecard. With scores of 75 for round 1 and 77 for round 2, he took home the win with 152 strokes. This was Woodbury’s 12th tournament since joining the HJGT in January of 2023 as well as his 4th first place win. Ryan Fenton and Jacob Lotz tied for the runner up honors. Fenton, from Boynton Beach, FL scored a 74 for round 1 and 81 for round 2 while Lotz, from Bavaria, Germany put up scores of 73 and 82. The players’ close scores gave them a total of 155 strokes for the weekend.
Charlie Woods from North Palm Beach, FL led the boys 14-15 division. With nine birdies on the weekend, he put up scores of 72 and 71. He was able to secure the first place win with 143 strokes and bring in his lowest score in an HJGT tournament. Woods has been playing with HJGT since 2021 and has 13 Top 10 finishes. With a final score of 151, Noah Manly took home runner up honors for the weekend. Manly, from Winter Park, FL is an up-and-coming player on tour. Finishing up in top three honors was Luke Friend from Acworth, GA with a score of 152 strokes. Currently he is second place on the HJGT point rankings.
In his first HJGT tournament, Paxton Cava from Delray Beach, FL was the first place champion in the boys 11-13 division. He put up scores of 82 for round 1 and 87 for round 2 along with four birdies, finishing off the weekend with 169 strokes. After his first tournament he is within the Top 100 of HJGT point rankings. Paxton’s next tournament will be in July at the Trump Westchester Junior Open, we can’t wait to see how he does.
Long time HJGT player and first place HJGT points leader, Grace Carter from Jupiter, FL was the first place finisher for the girls 14-18 division this past weekend. Carter has played with HJGT since 2020 and has over 35 wins under her belt. This weekend she was able to secure another victory with a weekend total of 156 strokes. The runner up honors went to Jayden Loyacona from Boca Raton, FL. Loyacona put up scores of 79 for round 1 and 84 for round 2 totaling 163 strokes for the weekend. Finishing up top three honors, Tallulah Brooks-Williams from Myakka City, FL brought in a total of 164 strokes for the weekend.
To finish off a great weekend, Ella Hrbata from West Palm Beach, FL was our champion in the girls under 13 division. This was Hrbata’s fifth HJGT tournament of the year as well as her third win in a row. Her final score for the weekend was 152 strokes.
