PLEASANT HILL – The Hurricane Junior Golf hosted the Major Championship at Copper Creek Golf Course this past weekend from August 5-6. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had three divisions; Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15 and Girls 14-18.

Leading the boys 16-18 division was Davis Jungbluth from Saint Josephs, MO. Jungbluth brought in a fantastic scorecard for the weekend. With one eagle and six birdies, he brought in scores of 77 and 69. Jungbluth secured his first win of the year with a total score of 146 strokes. This was his lowest score so far this year. With a final score of 151, Noah Moberg took home the runner up honors on the weekend. Moberg, from Grimes, IA is an up-and-coming player on the tour, this was his third Top 3 finish of 2023. Dillon Jordan from Grimes, IA and Braden Kruger from Huxley, IA tied for the top three honors. Both players were able to bring in an impressive score of 156 strokes.

In the boys 14-15 division Parker Rodgers from Nevada, IA finished the weekend in first place. Rodgers is a newcomer to the HJGT, this was his second event of 2023 and his first win. This weekend he brought in five birdies with scores of 76 and 69, totaling 145 strokes. Currently, he is ranked within the Top 50 players of the HJGT point rankings. Tyler Hoppe from Plymouth, MN took home the runner up honors after his first HJGT tournament of the year. In round 1 he brought in a score of 76 and in round 2 a score of 77. Hoppe finished the weekend with a final score of 153 strokes. Finishing up the top three honors was Leo Hong from Lincoln, NE with a scorecard of 168 strokes. Hong brought in his lowest tournament score of the year this past weekend.

To finish off a great weekend, Kelby Anderson from International Falls, MN was the first place finisher in the girls 14-18 division. Anderson has been playing with the HJGT for a year and has placed in the Top 3 in the five tournaments she’s participated in. This weekend she was able to take the victory with a total score of 149 strokes. This follows an outstanding first-place win at the Cantigny Summer Junior Open with a score of 158 strokes.
