ORLANDO – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Lake Nona Junior Open at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club from June 14-15. Boys and girls traveled from around the world to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had five divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys U10 and Girls 14-18.

First place in the boys 16-18 division went to Wangwa (Steven) Lai from Howey in the Hills, FL. This was Lai’s first HJGT tournament of the year as well as his first win. He brought in scores of 72 and 73 along with seven birdies. His total for the tournament was 145 strokes. Long time HJGT player, Will Browning from Orlando, FL placed as our runner up honors. Will brought in an exceptional scorecard with four birdies; his total for the tournament was 146 strokes. Finishing up top three honors was Takato Imoto from Osaka, Japan. He put up scores of 74 for both days giving him a total of 148 strokes.

Newcomer to the HJGT, Ethan Parish from St. Cloud, FL secured the first place win in the boys 14-15 division. Parish did a great job on the course and brought in a remarkable scorecard. With a round 1 score of 76 and 73 in round 2, he had a combined total of 149 strokes. With total scores of 153 strokes Bryce Napier from Palm Harbor, FL, Santiago Navarro from Winter Garden, FL and Orlando Torres from Oviedo, FL placed in a three way tie for runner up honors.

This was Connor’s second tournament since joining in 2022 and his first win. Participating in his first tournament of the year, Tyler Creavy from Orlando, FL took home the runner up honors. Tyler’s scores of 74 and 77 gave him a total of 151 strokes. Finishing up top three honors is Aarush Sarkar from Orlando, FL. Sarkar did a great job on the course and finished the tournament with a total of 159 strokes.

In his first HJGT tournament, Conrad Holzman placed first in the boys under 10 division. Holzman, from Houston, TX did a phenomenal job on the course this week. With seven birdies, he brought in scores of 72 for round 1 and 73 for round 2. He secured his win with 145 strokes. Hunter Williams from St. Augustine, FL took home the runner up honors with his best score. With eight birdies and scores of 74 and 79, he totaled 153 strokes for the tournament. With a total score of 156, Palmer Cowden from Orlando, FL finishes up in top three honors. He is currently within the Top 30 of HJGT point rankings.

To finish off a great tournament, Jenna Barnett from Kissimmee, FL was crowned champion in the girls 14-18 division. Barnett has been playing with HJGT since 2021 and she secured her first tournament win this past week with 147 strokes. With a total of 150 strokes, Alexandra Snyder from Orlando, FL took home the runner up honors. Snyder is currently within the Top 20 of HJGT point rankings. Lynne Zhang from Bradenton, FL finishes up the top three honors. Zhang put up scores of 76 and 79 totaling 155 strokes.
