SEVIERVILLE – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Knoxville Summer Junior Open at the Sevierville Golf Club from July 8-9. Boys and girls traveled from all over the country to participate in the 36-hole tournament. The event had four divisions: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13 and Girls 14-18.
In the boys 16-18 division, Wyatt Cochran from Blountville, TN finished the weekend as our champion. Cochran is new to the HJGT, he has played in four tournaments and improves his score each time. With nine birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 74 and 75. He finished the weekend with a total of 149 strokes. With a final score of 150, Caleb Cummings takes home the runner up honors. Cummings, from Carrollton, GA has been playing with the HJGT since 2021 and has over 10 Top 10 finishes under his belt. Caleb is currently within the Top 50 of HJGT point rankings. Owen Larson from Mount Juliet, TN finishes up top three honors with a final score of 152.
In the boys 14-15 division, Jude Robbins from Frisco, TX took home the first place win. In round 1 he brought in a score of 76 and a 74 in round 2, he finished the tournament with a total of 150 strokes. This was his second event of the year and his second win. Andrew Sandberg from Knoxville, TN placed as our runner up honors this past weekend. His scores of 89 and 74 gave him a final score of 163.
Wick Baker from Bristol, TN was our first place finisher in the boys 11-13 division. Baker brought in an exceptional scorecard for the weekend. With five birdies on the weekend, he brought in scores of 71 and 77, ending the weekend with 148 strokes. Jaycob Fowler from Jonesborough, TN took home the runner up honors. In round 1 he scored 78 and 76 in round 2 totaling 154 for the weekend. This was Fowler’s third Top 3 finish of the year. To finish up top three honors, Roman Amara from Nashville, TN brought in a total score of 172 strokes.
To finish off a great weekend, Sophia DiPaolo from Franklin, TN placed first in the girls 14-18 division. DiPaolo brought in an impressive scorecard for the weekend. With one eagle and nine birdies on the weekend, she had scores of 73 and 70. Sophia was able to secure her first victory of the year with 143 strokes. In a tie for the runner up honors was Sydney Courtney from Whitesburg, TN and Brook Farmer from Corryton, TN. Both players brought in a round 1 score of 83 and an 81 in round 2 for a total of 164 strokes.
